Spoiler: DBZ Super Spoilers (click to show/hide)
In less memey discussion, can anyone suggest some feel-good, non-depressing anime?  I'm trying to recover after finals and something easy to relax to would be nice.

Imma need help figuring out the name of a particular OVA series I watched way back. Don't think it had more than 10 episodes, some sort of X-men type of deal with certain people having certain superpowers and the lot of them hiding in this big amusement park/museum/something place from being hunted down by some sort of organization.
One of the main dudes could turn into some sort of fire wielding thing and a particular scene involves him doing this crazy ass fire punch which turned the target into charcoal just before the punch impacted which resulted in him breaking up in a satisfying fashion. There were also these cool cyborgs which rode on transformable bikes or something which were part of the organization that was hunting them down. Also it opened up with said cyborgs chasing down a kid whose powers recently manifested (he could produce these wierd explosive orbs out of his flesh or something, nasty stuff) and then getting thwarted by our main guy and some other folks.

Further searching found it, it's Towa no Quon :D

I started Girls Last Tour a little bit ago and man it is amazing.  The light, almost whimsical tone and art of the characters mixed with the serious, almost depressing situations they're in is really something.  Though the show itself isn't depressing, I think that "carefree hopelessness"  summarizes the show really well.
I definitely recommend it.

I watched PUNCHLINE on the basis that I learned it was by the guy that did the Zero Escape games, and even has a similar mechanic present in it. It was fun, though I feel the series ended too fast for the real 999-esque shenanigans to start. Reminds me I should frickin play the last game in the ZE series though.

"Ito Junji Collection" is starting this season, it's most likely going to be one of the few "must-see" shows of the season, since actual horror stuff doesn't get adapted all that often, especially not the kind of surreal "body-horror" stuff Ito Junji is known for. So yeah, horror, but don't expect the tired old zombie and vampire schlock with this.

I wonder how well it'll translate to animation, since Ito relied heavily on the shock of the page turn that is inseparable from his native manga medium.

I know different people do different things with the fact that Japanese names and European names are in opposite order, but hearing him called "Ito Junji" instead of "Junji Ito" sounds strange. I guess because he's so well known under his name in western order.

Watched that first ep of Ito's Stories, and it's weird that the first episode focuses on what is the weakest and most pathetic character of all his short stories.

Plus, and this should have occurred to me earlier, that the artstyle naturally had to be 'upgraded' in order for it to have non-jarring animation, but that's an obvious drawback of adapting it to anime, because the artstyle in the manga IS jarring and uncanny, reading an Ito manga is like reading and immersing yourself in someone's nightmare as they're dreaming it, whereas I fear the anime can't capture that unique kind of surrealism.

I FINALLY picked RE:Zero back up and finished it. Sucks that it ends unfinished. I still think that a lot of the dialogue and situations feel forced and contrived, but when the show wants it's moments to be big and over-the-top, it knows how to do it. Hell, I'd say that those big moments are perhaps the only reason to watch the show, but I'm glad that the MC finally started showing some self-awareness there at the end, that cut some of the bitterness substantially.

Let's just hope he holds onto it for the (presumed) next season, whenever, if ever, that happens.

Wasn't there a show very similar to RE:Zero lately?
I wanted to read the TvTropes page vut I got distracted and forgot the name, something about a guy that never forgets things and a girl that goes back in time but doesn't remember.

I was gonna add a poignant remark, but I can't remember it.  :-\

I only watched the first episode, but is that the one Sakurada Reset?

However, I'd say it has a similar time-travel device, but it looks like a completely different genre, more slice of life romance shoujo-esque rather than action adventure. So it would probably be more similar to some anime like "One week friends" or "ef: a tale of memories" but perhaps with a little more action since there's supposed to be some shadowy mystery.
