A negotiator named Roger Smith has a giant robot who's main weapon is the pulse generated from slamming a 20000 ton metal cylinder into it's arm, out it's hand.

It's terrible, as I remember. Giant robots, but I don't remember them having interesting fights or anything. I also couldn't swear it, but I believe it's one of those series where there's a lot of mystery, but it's not actually anything with a good answer, just weird stuff to make it seem like there's something going on.

And if that's the same art, it's at least half a decade older.

after Roger MISSES his omfgnukeeverythinginmypath laser, some weird giant robot god (which you have never heard a mention about ever) makes the other megaduce disappear and then Roger apparently calms it down by talking to it. Luckily the rest of the show is good enough to forgive that.

For the sake of redundancy : Cowboy Bebop dub is good, coming from someone who almost always prefers subs.

Also, rewatching Serial Experiments Lain for the first time in years and years. Still awesome. Although it's starting to suffer old-near-future-scifi-syndrome, where the "futuristic technology" looks laughably outdated. Another good example of serious anime...although probably a little fauxlisophical for most tastes. I just have a soft spot for it as my first pretentious mindfuck anime.
