So, basically...

Beatrice is little more than a very good illusionist.  She can summon all kinds of illusions, but cannot do ANYTHING to someone if they don't believe in her magic and recognise her as a witch.  This is how Battler seems to avoid death every time (except when he actually gives up).  If viewed in this light, all of Beatrice's fucked up minions become little more than glorified imaginary friends, and the scenes she shows Battler are, again, madeup to predispose him to believing in her magic.  Notice how nothing completely off the wall happens in arc one...

Oh no, i get the general overall plot, what i'm missing is the details.

Biggest beef: Battler denying magic. He's sitting there, denying that Magic exists, as large red words fly around him, time is paused and he watches people die and then come back to life, oh and then some girls get summoned that turn into flying blades and stab people and the butlers run around with magical laser swords on their wrists, and then a Demon pops up out of nowhere, and of course Beatrice keeps turning nito goddamn butterflies!

Now, if he was claiming that the murders on the island specifically were not the work of magic, fine, but he's claiming he doesn't believe in magic at all even as he teleports around.


And then there's that red text. Everything she says in red is undeniably true? Well you only have her word for that don't you, and she's said several things that were blatantly false in red. The locks can only be opened by the keys? Bull fucking shit.



Basically, gigantic nonsense plot holes.

He doesn't really disbelieve magic... he just seems to know that as long as he denies that Beatrice is a witch she can't hurt him.  And that if he can convince the others of this he can defeat her.  Either that or he's started from the premise "I am completely insane".

The red text... I guess the key thing means that noone had attempted to open a door without a key at any point.  In fact, she kinda screwed herself on that one, since the red text meant she wouldn't be able to use magic to open it either.  Even with magic she'd still need a key.

I've noticed something about what she says with regards to the number of people on the island.  It's always "There are no more than 18 people on this island".  Well, Kanon, Shannon, Genji and possibly Kurosawa don't count (since they're just the summons/ furniture/ imaginary friends of Kinzo.  In fact, if Beatrice doesn't count, neither would Kinzo).  Which leaves plenty of room for other shenanigans.

I read all spoilers now, since I am not watching Gurren Lagann any more.

On that note, I need a new anime to watch. Bleach and Gurren Lagann are my fav animes, so something similar would be awesome.

I do enjoy the anime moviiiess. My favourite? Prolly all the studio Ghibli films, i love them. Good stories, nice morals and above all good animation. I also like Trigun, funny as hell, and also the good old Ghost in the Shell.

Oh, I will correct myself, now that you mention it, I do love studio Ghibli films, I had completely forgotten them, I'm going to watch Princess Mononoke right now!!!

OH GOD NO. At least not if Dragon Ball Z is like the original Dragon Ball...that was HORRIBLE.

Hmm...on the OH GOD NO note, do not watch "Those who hunt elves". Basically, the whole plot is that the main characters strip the elves naked to find magical tattoos. If I had known this I probably would've bought a different anime, but as a Bay12er, a whole anime about hunting elves sounded cool.
