Watching anime on youtube is INCREDIBLY iffy.

Because of youtubes progressively more anal policies, it's not uncommon to only find unsubbed anime, incomplete series', and incomplete episodes, and no matter what, the video and sound quality is going to be complete and utter shit. I can't even look at anime on youtube anymore, it's that bad.

Agreed on all counts... But at least there is a lot of subbed episodes of Keroro Gunsou, too bad it seems that the fansubs stopped when the series was licensed...

About Blue Gender, after watching the first 6 episodes...

I really like this series, but I hate the characters and the pacing. It's like they chose the most blunt, socially inept person on the payroll to write all the characters and plot points. Theres a plethora of scenes that lack any form of subtlety. When your encountering a sad scene, it's not really that sad, but the show is practically screaming "SAD SCENE! BE SAD! LOOK AT HOW FUCKING SAD EVERYTHING IS!" and a slight variation at other times, "COMPASSIONATE SCENE! THIS SCENE IS TOUCHING! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO FEEL TOUCHED!", it's all too unbearable. The number of odd, awkward scenes between the characters is really off-putting also, seeing as how nobody talks or acts like human beings.

Whats more, Yuji, the main character, is reasonably upset after being awoken from a 22-year medically induced coma to find that his world has been overrun with giant space insects that 'evolve' to become more fiercesome in a way that makes Darwin spin in his grave. For the first few episodes I can understand that taking in all this violence and horror is upsetting, but it's like he NEVER GETS OVER IT! He's a naive sentimental sap to the fucking core! I just want to reach into the screen and hit him and tell him to be a fucking man or shut the fuck up! Then again, loser main characters are just par for the course in anime.

One last thing that strikes me as odd, the Blue (the insect monsters I described earlier) feel no fear or pain, can withstand tremendous amounts of damage before keeling over, and are naturally strong and well-armored. However, they also have a "core" which is a small hole on their head, which is apparently their weakspot. I took this with a grain of salt because it seemed like that was where they breathed, so it just seemed logical that shooting or stabbing their breathing hole would kill them. I have misunderstood this apparently, as in one episode, the "core" of one Blue is only grazed slightly, and the creature dies inexplicably. Apparently, it's not an organ, but a "hit here to kill" button. The show is inventing ways to jar me out of my immersion.

Then again, there's a bunch more episodes, so it may get better. Hopefully.

And you're right there. The most upsetting thing about this show is how it cannot decide on being either stupid or sensible. There's plenty of down-to-earth, common sense scenes and ideas, which are so rare in anime, and yet all too often you just can't help but wonder if the writer is trying to pull your leg or something. The worst part comes somewhere in the middle of the series, though. Ugh. I suppose, one has to treat this one very selectively to really enjoy it. Which I did.

crunchyroll used to be one of the nest, but then they decided to get rid of ALL user created content. about 5 million videos and pictures....its deserted now lol.

So, I'm a Pole, and I watch this anime, and at some point I go: "hey this looks just like the city I used to live in", and then people start talking Polish and stuff.

I haven't been exposed very much to anime: I am told I loved pokemon as a kid, and last Christmas mom bought animes from something called Studio Gibih(sp? there was one about a witch called kiki and one called "my neighbour [something beginning whit T, Toront I think]") to every semi distant relative and near relative which of coarse included me, loved those movies. So I guess I like anime, at least good and/or sane anime, but not BECAUSE of being anime.

any ways, the reason I'm bothering whit this is: whit anime being very common and cheap/easy to make, is there any indie stuff? (is it even called indie when not computorgames?)

Can someone link to movies that are:
- completely free on the net AND legal, no "pay for extra features" or pirating, but using the same business model as Bay12.
- good plot, and preferably also technically but that's less important.
- of reasonable movie length, not 100 episodes of series or a 5min short, 1-4 hours is good.
- possible to follow without knowing japanese
- something you wouldn't hesitate to show your kids. no "Hentai" or whatever it's called.

if you have non anime (either "western" cartoons or live action or something else) that fill these criteria that's just as good, but somehow I doubt it.
