Oh I know. One of the reasons I've never really looked into it before now is that I have no idea where to start.

...I suspect I will not be watching 40 episodes of anything without some unusual circumstances, however.

My cousin recommends the first season. She was really shocked at the rainbowyness of the more recent ones when I showed them to her iirc, since her memories of it heavily involved punching things and lampshades.

You know, I was rethinking the plot of Yowamushi Pedal, and when you boil it down Midousuji is probably more MC material than the actual MC.

Another day another day I wish there was a anime parody anime.

I was just thinking about how many "mysterious transfer students" there are in anime... and how easy it is to be transferred to any school you want and they will NEVER EVER check up on you.

I am reminded of this one anime I didn't watch but basically a guy basically crossdresses and pretends to be a girl in order to attend an all girls school... But while he is there his classmates are also crossdressers who are doing the exact same thing (each blackmailing the other).

I like to joke that the entire Girl's school are populated entirely by guys pretending to be girls in order to meet girls.

To tell you the truth I WOULD honestly love to just make a parody myself but beyond crippling procrastination... as you can tell my criticisms, jokes, and general humor tends to be rather caustic towards the material even when that isn't my intention, heck even when I am praising it. Any Parody I'd make would just seem like I utterly loathe anime as a whole.

I'm watching Broly: Second Coming. It... it seriously blows. It's the worst anime thing I've seen recently.

It's just really, really boring. The first Broly film must have been a huge hit, because this feels like a cash-in. I'm over half-way through, and the plot still isn't much besides "Trunks, Goten and Videl find Broly, Videl fucks off so that Trunks and Goten can get their asses kicked for twenty minutes". Even the fighting sucks. It's well-drawn with plenty of unique shots, but it moves along at a snail's pace.

I hit a button on VLC and now it's playing the English version, which is actually more entertaining because the English dub adds some Sonic Adventure-esque butt rock. Even over completely static exposition.

The big issue with Broly is the issue with a lot of popular villains. Which is that sometimes they are more popular then their own good.

When it works right it can lead to character development and depth being laid onto the villain... Like Vegeta...

When it doesn't it leads to a villain who worked perfectly in one situation being shilled out again and again whether he fills the narrative or not. Like Broly or as another example Carnage or Galactus from marvel. (Seriously writers, give Galactus a rest.)

Other anime examples are hard for me to think about. I mean One Piece has taken old defeated villains and turned them into interesting characters in their own right... and the fact that almost ALL the villains being still alive actually leads to more and more interesting outcomes and possibilities. Then again the show's villains has always been one of one Pieces strongest attributes. As it knows when a villain is weak and should be dealt with swiftly... but also in the many inventive villains they have. Honestly if you are fighting a villain whose powers is icecream breath... he might be able to kick your butt! but more importantly will have a character and demeanor that will make that character remember able in their own right.

While Bleach is the exact opposite. Where the continued existence of some of the show's villains just creates plotholes and tension within the narrative. Bleach basically... needed to keep some people dead and killed off others. As it seriously hurt its story and stagnated the series in a detrimental way. The show absolutely refuses to let its characters die removing all the dramatic tension it builds up.

I've watched about 40 episodes of Bleach, and I can't think of a single character that stayed dead besides Ichigo's mom (and IIRC she shows up all the time in flashbacks anyway so it's like she never died).

I mean, DBZ at least pretended that characters were going to stay dead for a while. :P

It definitely happens... But I will say... Just because you see a character die infront of your own eyes, and someone pronounces that they are dead, and Everyone around them treats them like they are dead as their bloody corpse stains the ground... it doesn't mean that they are dead... and I will ALWAYS hold it against Bleach.

But usually it is minor characters in the filler episodes or well... "Filler arcs from the manga"

---

In fact what I find the most interesting is the MAJOR theme from the Soul Society arc is just how flat out messed up and corrupt the soul society is and how the villain SORT OF has justification for his villainy.

And after all that is said and done... The Soul Society is probably worse then ever before... only now because they switched alliances they are overlooked.

Bleach NEVER wants to have real character and consequences.

Don't mean it's good, y'all.
It's not-shit enough to be okay. That or I just have a high tolerance for shit, which is also likely.
Oh, you could certainly do worse. Like Chivalry of a Failed Knight, which is literally the same story except with a cheaper budget and less competent writers. Or Anti-Magic Academy, Lance 'N Masques, or whatever other haremshit magic high school you want your lizard-brain to be fellated by. Or Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid if you just want softcore porn without even an attempt at a plot and a main character whose "funny" name pun is 'virgin'.

... most of bleach's cast is dead, and stay dead from the start to the finish.

It just doesn't do much to stop them from moving around :P

Actually, yeah you're right. Bleach's world is basically a really bullshit interpretation of the afterlife. Though that makes you wonder, if you die in the spirit world in Bleach, does that make you double dead?

Hey, that means that in Bleachverse nobody dies when they are killed.

Honestly, most of my curiosity re: bleach starts and stops with wondering how many laws isshin and ichigo's mom broke when they had kids. It starts with necrophilia and just gets weirder from there.
