I'm probably a few years behind on this, but I just played Dangan Ronpa and it was CRAZY GOOD. I haven't played very many games of the genre (or any), but I got totally sucked into the story and was completely unable to put it down until I finished. I remembered watching the first episode of the anime and stopping so it wouldn't ruin the game ages ago, so I finally got around to it.

The cases were really well put together...I figured out the answer to a lot of them on my own before the part where they really spell it out for you, which is about exactly when I feel it should happen. The only complaint I had is probably some of the Non-stop Debates...about half the time when you have to convert a bullet it took me forever to figure it out. All the other Non-stop Debates were fine, though, and the other minigames weren't bad, either.

11/10 would play again.

Anyone have any recommendations for similar games? I've heard Phoenix Wright may be a good place to head next?

I liked Dangan Ronpa but the last few mysteries kind of left rather sizable either plotholes or "How did the characters NOT notice this?"

I think my only issue was the final mystery. Most of the final investigation, as well.

The biggest issue I had with Dangan Ronpa was that it was blatantly obvious if someone was going to die if you got their support ranks up, since they'd be capped.

Yeah pretty much me too. It is kind of a shame all things considered.

I wouldn't have even guessed one of the twists mostly because I am too intelligent and knowledgeable on the subject the game blunders through.

Here is a made up example so I don't have to add spoilers

Game: "I like fishing all the time, placing lead at the end of my fishing line"
Character: "Do fishermen really put lead on their lines? I am highly suspicious"
Me: "Actually they do!"
Game: "Turns out I ain't a fisherman! it was a hint the whole time!"
Character: "What a twist!"
Me: "No really... They actually do that... It is a weight you can get it at any fishing supply shop."
Character: "Man, we were sure outsmarted here"
Me: "Stop that!"

To say the least.

From the first line of Wikipedia after searching on Google.

Not the best example.

The lead sinkers even when they aren't made out of lead are still often refered to as lead.

In the same way that "Silverware" is often just steel.

Even then he could have been an ocean fisherman.

On another note, I just started watching Charlotte. The main character is a total sleazeball (at least in the first ten minutes or so that I've watched)...

But then I just realized (with a slight assist from Google) that despite Key Coffee being an actual brand of coffee, it also appears in both Angel Beats and Charlotte with the logo of the producer Key. It's those little things that count!

Goodness... I wonder what anime will do once glare proof picture frames and photos come into being. I mean I guess there is still the convenient shadows and off camera.

Ok I do have to ask...

Why are animes so afraid to show people's faces? In some situations I get it, the fact that you don't see their faces is part of the appeal (Like Hayate's parents, they are so absent they can't even show up in their pictures). Yet why for most of these cases?

Probably to tell the watcher that these people are not going to show up later or be relevant to the story, so you don't need to remember them (Or to imply they are dead/emotionally vacant from the character's life.)
