As if there was but one movie.
If you must, watch the one with Gerard Depardieu, as it's not so much watered-down as some others.
And I actually found the book to be less fun than the Gankutsou, even if better than all the live action adaptations I've seen.(the Count in the book seems too much of a Mary Sue at times)

Hmm, Count of Monte Cristo... I seem to remember some robots in it that had some pretty high heels... But maybe they're more like high-heeled boots... Does this count?

Aye, but they be Swashbuckling Boots. It's different. It's like havin' a mini peg-leg attached ta yer heel, without havin' ta get yer leg lopped off first, y'see.

Anywho, I could see how the Count of Monte Cristo would adapt to an anime, with the whole rivalry, vengence, and training under a wise old master thing. What's this anime called?

Without contrast of the retched how can you tell the perils from the swine?

"Gankutsuou" (king of the cave).  Its graphics are kind of eye-bleeding until you get used to them, but I remember it being surprisingly good when I watched it a couple years ago.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Super-crazy art style.

Out of the big 3 shounen series (Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece) it looks like One Piece is the only one not hated by everyone.

:[
I don't hate them.  I won't mind them as long as I leave them well alone :P.  Y'know, 50 ep limit.

I think I'll watch Higarashi No Naku Koro Ni (with whatever word's meant to be red in there) over the easter break.

Watch it slowly, over a week or so for best effect.
After each chapter take a day off to let it sink in fully.

The more you think about it, the freakier stuff gets.

Kino no Tabi is one of my favorites... went out and bought all the light novels, and everything =)  Tell me what you think when you finish.

And done. The last two episodes...that was some really depressing shit.

Overall though I really enjoyed it. It was just...elegant. Arty and exhortative without being pretentious, which is so rare a thing. Especially refreshing after watching a string of mostly action-centric anime. My favourite episode was probably the Book of Prophecy one, but I couldn't say why. It wasn't as soul-crushingly sad as the other good episodes, I guess. Gah. That ending. Sad.

Maybe going to watch Mushishi on Il Pilazzos recommendation, it looks interesting.

Ooh, Mushishi is also fabulous.  Go watch it!

I also strongly suggest Mononoke.  Not Princess Mononoke, just Mononoke.  It's awesome Japanese horror stories, done really well in an interesting style.

I'll be heading back home for spring break, which is comprised of roughly a week and half, and I guess I'll have a lot of free time on my hands.

So I ask, what should I devote some of my time to watching? I definitely need to pick up where I left off with Monster, since I left halfway through the series and things were just getting juicy, but I might want to watch something else and I want a recommendation.

The Darker Than Black thing sounds really nice.

Darker that Black was really fun.

Anyone got a recommendation for me?

Anything with one or two seasons.
