I've been looking for anime/manga that involve modern technology being used in a medieval setting, usually with people being fascinated/terrified by the technology. I've found a few but they aren't enough! I'm addicted tot his genre and need more. Can anyone make suggestions? Doesn't necessarily have to be modern technology, anything with someone using vast amounts of experience to affect the world is cool.

And while I'm asking, what are some good manga with OP characters? Assume I already know all the popular ones (like one-punch man).
There is that Gate-lotsa-words-here manga soon to be anime someone mentioned earlier.

EDIT:
The untranslated name is "Gate - Jietai Kare no Chi nite, Kaku Tatakeri". Google will provide anything else you might need, really. There's definitely a fair amount of the manga fan-tranz'd, though I couldn't say if all of it has been, yet, as well as a little bit of the novel and LN.

Yup, I guess Knights of Sidonia is a more glaring example, since it's often labeled "Attack on Titan in Space" derogatorily. Which has little basis in any actual commonality. Plus, Sidonia was published before SnK, hence labeling it as an SnK rip-off is doubly misleading. Maybe the Titan guy was reading the Sidonia manga when he started writing ;D
Isayama has been open about his inspirations, SnK was largely inspired by the visual novel Muv Luv Alternative.

I think that's more because K-On has become synonymous with the "cute girls doing nothing" genre.

That is because K-On is kind of like Slice of Life without being Slice of Life.

Am I the only one who can't read "Slice of Life" without thinking "slasher"?

I don't get it...

Why does anime often forget that Freya is also a warrior goddess?

Then again... all media seems to forget this.

Ohh well... Hades will always be Satan... and Freya will always be a damsel.

Ohh well... Hades will always be Satan... and Freya will always be a damsel.

Because apparently the idea of a warrior goddess is incomprehensible, and people would rather simplify Gods and Goddesses down to the roles they WANT them to fill, rather than adapt the story to fit the roles they DO fill.

Knights of Sidonia is more like a good version of Macross Frontier than anything, honestly; The general plotline follows it almost exactly.

This current Kyoto Animation show about brass instruments, I was reading that it's just K-On with different instruments.

That made me chuckle because of how often people try and describe other shows in terms of a handful of the best known shows even if it doesn't really fit. Sora no Woto? - just K-On in the army. Aria? That's just K-On with boats. Free? Gender-flipped K-On set at the pool.

It doesn't help that a lot of shows starting using the K-On! style of character designs after that one came out, making them also look the same.
The difference between stuff like K-On! and stuff like Lucky Star, is that Lucky Star is over the top wacky sometimes while K-On! is just... girls doing nothing.
So of course it would become a "sub-genre type", because before that there was few "girls doing nothing" shows that didn't display over the top animations or reactions.

Hosted anime club for the first time in weeks this Wednesday. Gave my run-down of the Spring '15 season, and that was fun. Then I decided to show them Clean Freak. Felt the same afterwards as I had the first time I watched it. Afterwards, I got up front with "That was kinda intense. Sorry."
We're not always the most chatty group when it comes to discussion, but we had some great talk about the themes and animation style. Someone brought up the Madoka labyrinths.

I enjoy discussing anime face-to-face. Too bad I keep lapsing into netspeak when I'm with people of the same tastes as me.

Hooray for succession to official Club Leader next year! Down with Senpai! My taste shall rule supreme, and we shall have ACTUAL CLUB PLANS!

Note 1: This isn't exactly anime/manga, but I figured I'd post it here in response

If you are okay with western-written books (as opposed to manga/anime) you might want to check out The Salvation War. It's got a lot of similarities in the whole "military rains fire and death down upon terrified enemies" field, and it might help scratch that itch while you wait. (Note 2: It's kinda religiously charged, so if you are touchy about the subject of religion I'd suggest giving it a miss). Definitely one of my favorite books out there, though it'll sadly never be printed due to a "someone set up a torrent so its basically radioactive waste to publishers". :-\

The amount of cash in, in this thing ... there were a series of books in Japan called Osaka Rules, which was about cultural differences between the Tokyo region and Osaka, and a spin-off series called Osaka Mama, about what it's like marrying into an Osaka family. When it got adapted to anime, they decided they needed to jazz things up a bit. Logically, it now became My little sister is an 'Osaka Mama'. I want to see other informative books adapted in a similar fashion. Why just tell people about strategy and tactics when you can have My Little Sister can't be Sun Tzu? And who wants to hear Stephen Hawkings explaining things in his synthesized voice when we could have My Little Sister explains 'A Brief History of Time'?
