Well, if you have to choose a cliffhanger to die on...

On the bright side, it turns out the fanbase has pretty much figured out what was gonna happen next based on the super rushed even more cliffhangery ending (which is the one I referred to) than the original ending that was tagged on to the end of the Getter Robo Saga collection volumes by Ishikawa before he died.

Kekkai Sensen ... tried this one because MAL said it was like Baccano or Durarara. It's not really like them though, in the good ways. Basically a portal opened in New York, monsters pour through and live amongst the humans and some humans develop insane superpowers. So you have edgy urban science fantasy with superpower kids and gangster factions. It looks like a straight up heroes and villains story here with a single main protagonist. Very meh. None of the characters giving me a reason to give a shit about them.

Now, I'm checking out Owari no Seraph ... clearly inspired by attack on titan:
Quote
One day, a mysterious virus appeared on Earth which killed every infected human over the age of 13. At the same time, vampires emerged from the world's dark recesses and enslaved mankind. Enter Hyakuya Yuuichirou, a young boy, who along with the rest of the children from his orphanage, are treated as livestock by the vampires. Even in captivity, Yuuichirou dreams big. He dreams of killing vampires. He dreams of killing them all.

But it's better than attack on titan because he fights with a magic-looking sword like Kirito, and the rebels built a Japanese-style highschool! so we get to have the edgy gory resistance story but with magical swords and highschool lolis and tsunderes. oh joy. And he might even have an ex-friend-turned-rival with white hair to his black hair, so we even get a bit of the Code Geass effect. Yay. I found this season's Mahouka. I'm just waiting for the little sister character to pop up now.

I haven't watched it yet but I believe the protagonist in Kekkai Sensen changes with every arc.

I desperately want a copy of Princess Knight. Does anyone else know of any similar works other than Rose of Versailles and Revolutionary Girl Utena?
I haven't watched that one, but just reading about it Akatsuki no Yona seems pretty similar, and it's very good.

These are some possible ones from one feminist anime club's list on MAL :

I just watched Show By Rock episode 1. First impressions ... K-On clone played 100% straight. After watching the whole episode though ... yeah, that was ... whatever that thing was.

This current Kyoto Animation show about brass instruments, I was reading that it's just K-On with different instruments.

That made me chuckle because of how often people try and describe other shows in terms of a handful of the best known shows even if it doesn't really fit. Sora no Woto? - just K-On in the army. Aria? That's just K-On with boats. Free? Gender-flipped K-On set at the pool.

I think that's more because K-On has become synonymous with the "cute girls doing nothing" genre.

Yup, I guess Knights of Sidonia is a more glaring example, since it's often labeled "Attack on Titan in Space" derogatorily. Which has little basis in any actual commonality. Plus, Sidonia was published before SnK, hence labeling it as an SnK rip-off is doubly misleading. Maybe the Titan guy was reading the Sidonia manga when he started writing ;D

I've been looking for anime/manga that involve modern technology being used in a medieval setting, usually with people being fascinated/terrified by the technology. I've found a few but they aren't enough! I'm addicted tot his genre and need more. Can anyone make suggestions? Doesn't necessarily have to be modern technology, anything with someone using vast amounts of experience to affect the world is cool.

And while I'm asking, what are some good manga with OP characters? Assume I already know all the popular ones (like one-punch man).

I guess the trick is to never watch K-On then. I definitely didn't feel the need to slot Soranowoto into some forced subgenre, and it remains my favourite series.

Heh. I'm guessing the K-On comparisons will only last until the next big hit comes along. At the time everyone was calling K-On a Lucky Star clone, now all shows are called K-On clones. Soon enough it will turn around "K-On? Pfft, that show is just a second rate xyz clone!"

And then, I will find that fool who forgot their place in time and end them.
