As a person who hasn't seen this route before I can honestly say I have no idea what you are talking about, so no.

Story-wise all they did this episode was have Caster leer at Saber for a while, have archer defect over to Caster's side, and then have some tender Shiro x Tohsaka moments.

All 07th Expansion works suffer from the problem of fantastic initial plot settings and atmosphere, that eventually ends up being about something less cool and interesting than what you imagined it being.

A new Gintama series, you say? Might be worth checking out if it contains less filler than Gintama'.

EDIT: Why does Crunchyroll have to hardsub their videos? Is there any way to get rid of those stupid, ugly strips of text?

They're not actually hardcoded. All the third-party direct rips of CrunchyRoll are soft-subbed. It might be their playback system. I don't know if it will work with CrunchyRoll but I have a browser plugin call Ant Video Downloader which rips videos from many streaming sites. You can try using that, or just grab a downloadable version someone already did.

If you want really horrible encodes, look at funimation. Compared to CrunchyRoll, they're hard-subbed, double the file size and looks worse overall.

No they weren't.  The anime is kindof confusing but the VN essentially explains all the weird things that happen in detail in a neat little sidestories section.

Hah, death star face off! And I like how Yang has such a reputation that him merely being stationed somewhere makes people second guess every move the alliance makes. Too bad he is indeed, as predicted, getting hampered by political shenanigans (gotta admit Lohengramm is far better at that side of things).

Also got real confirmation now they actually use warp drives. I'd kinda like if they explained in more detail how some of the techs they use 'work', cause there some seriously iffy things going on throughout the series. Then again, that might completely crush suspension of disbelief, so maybe it's for the best.

And now Reinhard finally brings up just moving for his enemy through the second (Phezzan) passageway. Y'know, the one not guarded by a massive fortress.

There are a lot of different factors at work, I'll try and list the biggest ones.

1. The Hinamizawa Syndrome - this virus, native to Hinamizawa, makes you paranoid in its early stages and gradually leads to delusions, mania and death if the victim is placed under stress.  This is what caused people to bug out and go on rampages (almost every route), and also leads to the victim experiencing delusions (most notably in the first chapter where Keichii's illness causes him to believe his friends are trying to kill him).  Note that attempts to help the victim can be misinterpreted as some kind of conspiracy.

2. Hinamizawa's culture - in order to prevent the virus from killing people Hinamizawa developed a unique culture.  Everything has to be as relaxed as possible, which can be creepy to outsiders as the villagers have a strong tendancy to conformity.  This is also why people aren't meant to leave or enter the village - the change in venue is likely to lead to stress and people going nuts (note that all three of the rampage characters are to some degree "outsiders").

3. Children Make Jokes - the kids make silly jokes with each other sometimes.  Normally these seem perfectly innocent, but when under extreme paranoia they can come across as sinister.

4. Rika timelooping - in later arcs Rika began to give up on timelines as soon as she saw certain patterns emerging, and thus she took drastic measures.

5. Outside Influences - whenever someone starts feeling stressed Miyo or Oishii tend to turn up and encourage people to think there's some kind of huge conspiracy going on in the town.  This means that behaviour which would otherwise be seen as normal suddenly takes on a sinister tone.  The fact that the Sonozakis always refuse to deny that they were responsible for happenings in the town makes this even worse.

There are a few more but those are the main ones.

My favourite part of Higurashi is in the staff-room section for Meakashi-hen where the author says "so I guess the moral of this story is 'don't kill people'"
