Everyone feels undeveloped compared to last season since Bandai mandated team battles to sell more gunpla which inflates the amount of cast members which results in the show having less time to focus on all of them. The staff have been complaining about it. Also we don't have the preliminaries this time around.

What they could have done is do the unthinkable and have certain characters use more then one Gunpla.

They're probably hoping that if you buy one, you'll have to buy the set of three or you won't have a series-correct team, and if you want to model the top two facing off, you have to buy 6 gunpla. Pure greed. If they had multiple gundams per single challenger then you'd probably just buy their most iconic version.

Maybe they figured the anime doesn't have enough potential for a third or generally ongoing seasons, so given that the first season was so popular, this season is tacked on and they're maximizing the toy sales potential to bleed this particular stone dry.

Considering they're kits instead of figures, I don't think that kind of completionism factors in so much as WE HAVE TO PUSH OUT ALL THE KITS WE CAN LAST SEASONS KITS SOLD SO FREAKING WELL. In my personal experience they're delicate enough that play is discouraged, and balancing + stands being in the way make facing things off look pretty awkward unless you put in effort. And they're enough of a time and money investment you're not likely to bother if you don't like a design. Then again kids, but the feeling just doesn't really click I guess. Team Try Fighters maybe since they have a combining gimmick but for the rest I'm not really feeling it. And we've had kits of members of a team without their teammates getting kits

Having someone control multiple wouldn't make as much sense in the show since they would either have to sacrifice the amount of control they have over the units or have AI assistance. Like there are G-Bits but I think it can be assumed that they're not very precise in their behavior since they're basically just MS shaped funnels. And even then there is the fact that everyone has their mid season upgrades and some have used lesser suits if the situation calls for it, as mentioned by Frumple below.

... this kinda' reads like you haven't actually watched the show. At all. Several of the characters actually have used multiple mobile suits, and while character development is a bit weaker this go 'round, the show is quite far from ruined. It's... still pretty decent. Yeah, it's a bit more cash-y this time around, but it's still good enough.

Honestly, I've been noticing the fanservice uptick more than character/plot related problems, so far.

For the characterization thing... well as one person put it, by episode 15 of season 1 we were at the big Fellini fight. The one with all the manly feels. At this point in Try the closest we've gotten is maybe the fight against that guy with the Mega Shiki, and even them it doesn't stand that close in comparison. And the rivals aren't as fleshed out and like Neo said you can tell immediately who's destined to be steamrolled. It's why I made that mention about thinking the show would be more interesting if Minato was the MC. It's still fun of course, but it just isn't reaching rhe same quality levels that S1 did.

Huh? I don't get how that comment is specifically directed at me ... I was saying that in direct response to Neoniveks comment which was "What they could have done is do the unthinkable and have certain characters use more then one Gunpla."

Neonivek said it's "unthinkable", whereas nothing I said implies it hasn't happened. I said having multiple gundams per challenger only encourages you to buy their most-iconic version, which implies that there is a "most iconic version", hence multiple gundams per character. I contrasted this with team setup, which encourages you to buy a whole set at once. I wasn't the one who said it was "unthinkable" that one person has multiple gundams or that it doesn't happen in the show.

Where I said "single challengers" I was referring to a non-team set up, rather than saying a specific character. I was just saying that show setup doesn't encourage you to buy multiple gunplas at once like a team-based approach could.

Log Horizon!

My roommate is thinking about getting it, and I'd like to know ahead of time how haremy,incesty,kiddy-porny,fanservicey it is before I even think about watching it.  Anybody happen to know?

This thread seems unusually good at getting rid of junk I don't want to see.  :D

Not really any of the negative stuff in Log Horizon. If I had 12 year olds to entertain I wouldn't feel bad about showing them Log Horizon.

... the manga, on the other hand...

... well, the one I've actually read was decently heavy on the shota and harem side of things. Somewhat amusingly so, but...

I was doing a bit of reading and I've decided Goro Miyazaki (the famous Miyazaki's son) cops a lot of shit he doesn't deserve. Tales of Earthsea was the first animated film that the dude worked on, apparently. He was brought in to do storyboarding but then the producer (not his dad) was so impressed he offered him the director's position. He was 39 at the time, so in terms of age, this is comparable to when his dad was making Castle of Cagliostro, and Hayao had been in the business himself for almost 20 years at that point.

So the guys first movie isn't comparable to stuff his dad was making after 20+ years as an animator? What a surprise. That does sound like an unfair burden to load on someone, which was the exact reason Goro originally decided against becoming an animator: he knew he'd always be compared to his dad, so rather than pursue animation he studied a completely unrelated field and only got back into it in his late 30's. His second movie From Up On Poppy Hill was pretty good.

"fair" would be to ask: is Tales of Earthsea better than Panda Kopanda?
