Really I think terrible school harem stuff is on the way out, out of the dozens of currently airing shows there are probably 5 or fewer that fit that description.  Mostly this seems like a decent season - there are several shows that are worth watching, and the only egregiously awful one that I know of is Cross Ange.
Not counting any sequels/ongoing, these were the best of 2014, for me:
Stardust Crusaders was also pretty great, and Unlimited Blade Works has had excellent animation (even if it can't escape the problems that FSN always has).

What problems, the Nasu narration? :P

E: Ooooh, or maybe not. It looks like the xammie's going to be on the probable winning team. Dander, risen.
I was so terribly, terribly, unsurprisingly wrong. RIP xammie ;_;7

Relevant.
TIL: "dere" is two syllables instead of one.

She puts a slight inflection on the end which doesn't sound right from what I know of hiragana/Japanese pronouciation. She has it like "Yan-deh-rey", and both the last two syllables should be the same inflection "Yan-deh-reh".

Point is, since I had only ever seen the term in text I just mentally pronounced it "Dere". Like "there", but with a d instead of a th.

Japanese generally doesn't have silent vowels at the end of words. It's a pretty easy language to get a feel for, since it has a more rigid structure than, say, English, with all of its exceptions to rules. Once you get the hang of it, you pretty much know how to pronounce anything. Plus, Katakana is purposefully simplistic, which makes it a lot easier to learn the written language.

ヤ - ン - デ - レ = ya - n - de - re  Although the n isn't really counted as its own syllable when pronouncing it.

Japan's ONLY issues come from how you can interpret the same words as being completely other words.

That kicks in when you start to look at Kanji, I read that every time the Japanese encountered the same Chinese character at different eras / Chinese dynasties they decided to incorporate every single new Chinese pronounciation and alternate meaning while still keeping the old ones. So unlike the Chinese who changed how they interpret a symbol based on differing dialects, localities and time periods, the Japanese accumulated them.

In terms of computing, Japanese really is the Intel x86 of languages, keep adding new stuff, and keep ALL the layers of old stuff for no real good reason.

Japan's ONLY issues come from how you can interpret the same words as being completely other words.
And also how different words can sound absolutely the same when put together.
