What's the hate with long running series?
Hmm... I guess that would be me, mainly, due to my "No shows with above 50 episodes" policy.  Mainly because I feel that it should be possible to tell a story within that time, and if it get longer, that can mean two things.

Firstly - that it's stuffed with filler.  I don't mind shows with a naturally episodic nature, but unnecessary story arcs annoy me.
Secondly - that they never really intend to wrap up the story, and will just keep moving indefinately.  Something I like about anime is the tendancy towards a proper ending.

But whatever.

I feel like reading something, so I might go over the Death Note manga.  Hey, my friend has most of the actual physical copies (he's spent the last 2 years collecting them).  Maybe I could borrow them.

EDIT: I like looking at the top few threads about the manga I'm reading.  Apparently there's supposed to be a Hollywood film of Death Note with Zac Efron as Light lined up.  This sounds completely ridiculous, but also worrying possible.  Can someone please confirm it's a lie?

Then just treat the entire story as arcs...i see no problem with continuing a story as long as you can. Unless it's fillers like in Naruto.

I hate long running stories too. The Odyssey had way too much filler.

Thats just nostalgia. There still good anime being made. Afro Samurai is wonderful. Boboboobobo (probably have that missed spelled), is oddly fun. ROD is also awesome... and 8 years old. Yowzers. The TV series I found weaker then the movie, but the ending is suppose to be pretty strong. Soul Eater is pretty fun to. Kino Journey is also excellent. Probably the most recent anime I've seen. Avatar: The Last Airbender is excellent. It could have been a little longer, as there are a few dump truck plot exposition episodes and I think it wussed out on the ending. I think Aang should have

There probably other genre out there that have some shining stars.

Doesn't an anime have to be from Japan?

I think it has to do more with art style. In Avatar, you'll find a lot of convictions from anime in Avatar, its far closer to an anime style then western style. If you look at Teen Titan, that was much closer to a Anime Western hybrid as was Totally Spy.

I dont think is a wrong definition to state anime has to be from Japan.

Hmm... but anime is just the Japanese word for cartoon (or animation, I guess, since CGI stuff is also "anime" to them).  It'd probably make more sense to say it's in the Japanese art style.

I think you can call a cartoon an anime based on how they draw the facial expressions....the several blue vertical lines underneath the eye, having 3's for eyes, having an x for a mouth. That type of stuff...At least thats what i grasped form the explanation of Kappa Mikey's(tv show) art style.

Uh... can't say I've ever seen 3s for eyes or an x for a mouth.  What do you mean?

Yeah.  That's just me being slow.

But I'd probably associate X eyes with western animation more. Specifically South Park.
