I think Death Note is fairly unique in that it actually acknowledges that its main character is completely evil at the end.  Most other series I've seen with vaguely bad protagonists try to provide them with some redemption at the end.

In other words you're really not meant to agree with Light, he's a horrible person.  It's more like you're meant to be able to see how his (fairly realistic) views on the legal system combined with the power he was suddenly given led him down the road it did.

Villain breakdowns don't seem to be bound by the normal rules of reality.  That's why Kristoph can levitate objects and the Phantom can have like 50 random masks on top of each other.

That's the thing that bothered me, the phantom having masks, sure, but WHY did he have those particular masks pre-prepared? It wasn't really clever, just bizarre. It's a revelation that doesn't support anything else in the story. It's what makes the last hour of the game feel delusional.

And everyone talking down to him about the power of love and shit all of a sudden, and I feel like they set it up just for the triple objection pose. That's hype fanservice of the truest degree, and I feel that denigrates every character involved just a little bit.

but about villain breakdowns, I feel Yuri Cosmos was just wayyyyyy too over the top. Seriously dude, pointing out a little flaw in your testimony doesn't require that you start spinning like a top, and moreover you don't need to continue spinning for what's like a solid 20 minutes at everything everyone says. You're gonna make yourself puke bro.

That's one explanation. I don't buy it, but it's an explanation.

And I'm disappointed that he didn't have a Real face underneath all those masks. It's just weird that after having him arrested and everything, absolutely noone is interested in knowing the real face of the man. I mean, yeah, he SAYS he doesn't have a face, but he's not a Time Lord or a Wizard, he's gotta have a real face. Just show it already. Geez.

I suppose I want to punctuate all my complaints of the game just by saying: I really do think the game was a ton of fun, and worth the money. If it's the last AA game they ever make, this is a excellent ending to a long series.

I still haven't done the DLC Chapter though! I should probably do that and come back with a revised opinion, and who knows how long the game will be supported with further DLC content. Really, I supposed they could just keep patching more and more sections onto the story this way until it's a fat beast of a convoluted game, but we'll see.

That is because they got lucky... and even then watch as their moods and emotions wildly shift between extremes at any moments notice.

It's very unlikely that AA5 will be the last in the series.  It sold incredibly well in Japan, and with the 3D assets already made a sequel can have an even tighter budget.  It's unclear whether any more will be translated to English though.
