But I thought everything blew up at the end?  And all the main characters caught a bad case of the death?  How do they squeeze a movie out of that?

Depends on where you consider the end of the series. If they consider it right after Madoka makes her super wish, then there are still magical girls, they just operate really differently. There's a fuckton that could be done with that, especially if you consider the implications of some of the shots at the end.

Mainly that everyone dies. They're together at the beginning, but slowly, over time, they disappear, until Homura, shouldering the responsibilities of a dead world for an extinct race, fights off her crushing despair with only her faith in Madoka's answer to the world.
If you take that last bit as the end of the series, then the only way I can really see it working is if they pull a Rebuild.

The reason why Lelouch is so likeable as a character is because no one in Code Geass is the Good Guy, except for the girls (Nunnally, Tianzi and Kaguya, although Kaguya is less so than Tianzi and Nunnally). Literally everyone who isn't straight-up innocence-in-youth is a flawed character.
The Emperor is a bad guy. Schniezel is a bad guy. VV is a bad guy. CC would let the world burn if it was interesting or achieved her aims, so she's not that great either. Marianne is a bad g(irl)uy since she's with the Emperor and used people if it suited her. Nina's a bad guy.
As for countries/groups, the JLF isn't good, China isn't good, Britannia isn't good, the EU is an unknown but probably also not good, etc.
And these characters, groups and countries aren't not-good because they are against Lelouch, they have observable facets of them that disqualify them for being a real protagonist, and anyone who might be more of a good guy than Lelouch with all of his mistakes and necessary evils, like maybe Gino, is taking directions from people worse than Lelouch is.

As for the ending, Lelouch got exactly what he wanted. He wanted a world without conflict and hate that would be safe for Nunnally. The only way he could think of doing that would be to throw out any notion of politicking and propaganda and just commit bold and obvious atrocity after atrocity, show the world all the horrors humanity could inflict upon itself, create himself as an idol of those horrors and atrocities, and then instigate his own downfall while helping ensure the resulting power vacuum resolves exactly how he wants it to (this largely has to do with Schniezel). Yeah, he died, so he won't be able to witness and enjoy the ending, but he died knowing he did everything that he could with the power granted to him to fulfill his one wish for Nunnally. He died knowing he could never ask for forgiveness for the things that he had done, but he also never wanted to ask for forgiveness. The price of his Geass upon the world was the universal damnation of everything he was and the inability to see the fruits of his labors, and he gladly paid it, even as he bled out in front of Nunnally.

I swear I laughed so hard after I watched that clip. They managed to make chips much more suspenseful than they usually are.

So I'm a little late to the party, but I've finally finished Ace Attorneys: Dual Destinies.

And yeah, I really really loved it. Seeing 17 yr old Pearls was a super good treat, even if she didn't do alot. I'm a little disappointed that Maya never made a formal appearance, but by this point in time I think she'd be in her late twenties, so she wouldn't be the cute teenager that her entire character archetype revolves around, so in that sense I can understand why they'd puss out and not include her at all.

I do have some complaints, in that I think the game is easy, SUPER EASY, and I feel that that detracts from the experience a bit.  Some of my fondest memories of the earlier games was getting utterly stumped by some bizarre twist of logic or some deftly hidden lie, and then having to actually spend time to look at all the evidence and get that EPIPHANY Moment when it all fits together. That kind of feeling doesn't really exist in Dual Destinies, even the boss characters, even the VERY LAST boss character doesn't throw any really kind of twisty logic curveball at you, you're spoon fed right up to the very end.

In fact, there's a kind of tonal shift right near the end that's personally kind of bothers me. It becomes very "Feel Goodsy" like I"m watching a kid's shounen anime. More than that though, the last hour of the game feels... BIZARRE, like the story suddenly becomes disconnected from reality, like... like...

Alright, for people that are familiar with Final Fantasy 8, here's spoilers for that game too:

There's a theory called the "Squall is Dying" theory, where only the first disc of the four disc game is actually 'real' and then the remaining 3 discs are the twisted delusional death throes of Squall as he lies dying on the street pavement where he was skewered. I'm a guy that's played the game so much that it just makes too much sense given the events that happen in the game.

But my point is, there's a point where the game becomes so bizarre it feels like one of the characters has lost touch with reality and the story seemlessly segways into their delusional, wishful thinking fever dream. It's almost like Athena actually goes bonkers crazy from her traumatic past.

But hey, that's just me.

Yeah it was definitely too easy, but I do like how they made the experience almost stress-free.  I can't remember pulling my hair out at all besides some of the weird plot directions.

Villain breakdowns don't seem to be bound by the normal rules of reality.  That's why Kristoph can levitate objects and the Phantom can have like 50 random masks on top of each other.
