I think I'm one of the rare people who like the latter half of Gurren Lagann even more than the beginning.



October is horror month, so now I've finished what I am going to watch of Another and am viewing Shiki.
This show has some weird character designs, I must say. Also, episode 4 doesn't want you to sleep.

Why would I stop watching, anyway? It was episode 6(?) and that scene doubles as Kamina's crowning moment of awesome. I was actually starting to worry that the series would just be Kamina and Simon overcoming every obstacle thrown at them.

Because people come to think of Kamina as being the main character and get swept up in his awesomeness. They ignore the obvious signs of the protagonist actually being Simon (as in the whole conversation of Kamina and Yoko about how Kamina is pretty much bluffing the whole time and he's only able to have any real confidence thanks to Simon, who has some actual self-confidence even if its hidden). What follows (SO DON'T READ IF YOU'RE NOT LIKE 1-2 EPISODES PAST THE DEATH) is a bit of GAINAX character trauma reminiscent of NGE which turned a lot of people off. So they lose who they think is the main character who they like a bunch, he's replaced by someone who appears to not be that good of a main character, and new main character is obviously upset with what happened but they don't like watching that part, basically.

That's why a bunch of people stop watching, and they lose out on so much.

Actually I like the second half for different reasons.

Shiki is awesome, one of my favorite animes. Love the first opening, and it certainly has some unsettling scenes, the best of which are yet to come.

Oh man, that first OP is so good. The song's been stuck in my head all week.
I like how the protagonist isn't bothered by things like digging up peoples graves but a girl possibly outside his window makes him have to start sleeping over at a friend's place.

So I finished SAO and got nearly all the way through Gurren Lagann in a night. Both are good but for very different reasons. Gurren is literally the best Mecha i've seen (though I haven't seen much )
