Actually, the sheer unlikelyness of the situation makes me wonder why there aren't many more souls stuck in that purgatory. What if someone's life regret was not thanking someone for something other than a heart transplant? Then, the person they wanted to thank would reincarnate normally, and the one who regrets not thanking them would be there literally forever. It would get a bit crowded.

IIRC that purgatory was specifically for high school age students who died with those sort of problems. Since that particular age group has one of the lowest death rates (based on age), and then those who had problems only composes a portion of those, I wouldn't find it too surprising that there aren't that many there. Add in to that the fact that many of their problems (such as never being able to play sports, or being able to perform awesome music) would naturally occur if they had simply gone to class and acted like normal, and you get a world that very quickly processes any souls that end up in it.

Angel Beats, full of wtf at the end.  I don't particularly... agree with how things end.

I just can't accept the concept of acceptance/fulfillment... and then you cease to be/poof.  Without a word or anything. 
Who knows what could have happened, maybe instead of 'ascension', you were taken by force and hidden away somewhere...    The cruelest part is that most of the time, they are leaving people behind, friends, without a word or explanation.
Noone would be the wiser...

Also, reincarnation is debatable in that world if I remember correctly.  You may just cease to be, forever.

IIRC they explicitly stated you get reincarnated. Your previous life reaches fulfillment, so you get a new one.
