Given that it's ridiculous/the opposite of what you'd expect, I'd imagine so/doubt it'd need a specific source to be parodying unless they make a point of only mocking specific existing things.

Been watching Wedding Peach with the fiance and her brother. Um... wow.

I'm having difficulty describing it beyond "it's Wedding Peach." It's a wedding themed Sailor Moon that's both absurdly bad and wonderful at the same time. Mostly bad but it has its upsides, like some hilariously incompetent villains and homoerotic innuendo. And for the downsides, well... there are so many long transformation scenes that the fiance and I just decided to make out during them.

I did a bit of google research, and a Gunslinger Girl mentioned the Excel Saga episode, and also the anime Noir. Also by following recommendations from Gunslinger Girl on myanimelist, i can find a pile of 90's manga or anime about little girl assassins, e.g:

Sawa is a school girl, an orphan, and an assassin. She is being controlled by a corrupt cop who gives her targets to kill, detailing to her the crimes these men have committed in order to justify their death. Some of his power over Sawa has to do with her deceased parents and the promise of revenge. When another orphan, a teenage boy called Oburi, is brought in to assist Sawa, the two teenage killers form a bond of sorts. As they heal each other's emotional wounds, they begin to dream of a life that would not be spent under the shadows of murder.

There's also stuff like Battle Angel Alita. Though Alita was a loli cyborg bounty-hunter, rather than an assassin per-se.

I think Gunslinger Girl and Excel Saga's parody were both derived from previous works, but Gunslinger Girl tried to take a different perspective on the killer little girl story, focusing on the psychology rather than the gunfights.

Everyone in Excel Saga is deliberately bad at everything. That's standard fare in parodies. Competence would be out of place. Being incompetent in Excel Saga is hardly a link to other shows with incompetent characters.

It's that time again!  On volume 9 of Gantz.  I've put this off for a long time thanks to its length and stuff, but I can't be picky (god knows I'm not with VNs).

The phasing in and out effects are pretty cool.  I haven't seen that anywhere else.  Although the mangaka notes the backgrounds are nice but because they're digitally rendered they lose a lot of "life" which is probably for the better maybe?  In this case anyway.

Overall, the art is pretty nice and I would put around Battle Royale levels.

I like the phasing.

Also something to say here; I've read a lot of chapters scanlated by Gantz_Waiting_Room (Dorohedoro,Shingeki no Kyojin) so it's really nice to actually see the damn thing.  What the hell does Gantz mean anyway?  Is it a name?  There's a Gantz in Kamidori.

One odd thing with our protagonist buddy Kei is he is very...sexually forward.  He becomes completely jealous of Katou being heroine Kei's romantic interest (the main heroine is also named Kei) and gets angry enough to kick her out of his house because he felt unneeded which he later regrets.  Not going to pick sides here but protagonist Kei really has some issues which can range from laughable to wow what a dick.
(Yes they had sex, why not)

Although, after Round 3's results I can't imagine Kei being any healthier.


And I thought Round 3 was going the best so far (it was, only the priest died at the start).  For the target each Round I noticed that Gantz always LIES, and the real boss target has to be found on your own in the area.  You at least get to see their minions usually.

Yeah this is it, I've seen this image quite a while ago.  I'm sure it's posted in a lot of places because it's so...iconic?  Anyway you hopefully didn't open this if you care about spoilers (an ideally you already know what happened) but EVERYONE IS DEAD KEI WAAAH UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH


Criticism-
Rules should be posted or something, because players who are veterans have almost no incentive to help newcomers which causes many pointless deaths.  I also suppose the writing for generics is usually awful but sometimes you get some okay ones.  Also they never survive, ever.  Way to go playing with our expectations Gantz.
Mr. Nishimo(?) the middle school-er was so obviously not going to survive it hurt.  How could a skilled veteran with 90 points get taken down by a Tanaka minion?  Kei notes it was probably bad luck, but not from what I saw.  His character was also generally smug and unlikable, completely.
I couldn't believe they killed everyone but Kei in Round 3, might as well killed everyone.  What was most shocking was Katou and heroine Kei of course.  There is another (real) copy of heroine Kei in reality because of faulty fax, but she's not really involved at all right?  Maybe Kei will attempt to kill her to get her into Gantz, yeah that sounds like a great idea Kei!
Round 4 looks dumb and gimmicky so far.  FRIENDSHIP

I noticed the first twenty or so volumes are labeled into "Part 1" so I suppose something significant happens!  Probably Kei winning, maybe.  Hrrm, I really don't expect anything amazing.  Maybe okay.  Readable.

As for my opinion, I don't know.  It's kind of like The Matrix meets Battle Royale and there's a lot of nonsense.  Round 1 upset me because there was such an unclear objective and what-the-hell-are-we-doing-ness that caused a lot of unnecessary problems.  Round 2 was an improvement overall but still did some things I didn't like (probably want to check the bottom of the spoiler tag for actual details) but the WTFness was pretty good.  Round 3 was completely insane and I finally got to see that manga page that everybody has probably seen and it's great.  You know what I'm talking about.  It was probably the best round so far in freshness.  Currently on Round 4 which seems to be back to Round 1-2 levels of hrrmmm.


I'm also almost done with the first season of Full Metal Panic, it is quite mediocre.  I'll look forward to the KyoAni seasons.

Whenever he got an alien he couldn't beat, he'd just stealth and wait for time to run out.
The Tanaka's seemed like they could see through his stealth, and he wasn't actually as skilled as he said he was.

I normally don't like graphic series, but man that phasing sure is cool. And Round 4 is way more dumb in the anime than in the manga, so at least there's that.

As for FMP. Of the KyoAni seasons, the side series has its moments, but the second season might actually be worse than the first. It was kinda boring, honestly. Better animated though.
