Is that because they actually do? Or is it because there a very strong series of elements that common through his movies though?

Have you actually seen both movies? The Cat figurine which becomes alive "The Baron" features in both.

It's the specific character of The Baron, who is only seen animated once in Whisper Of The Heart in a sort of dream sequence i believe but becomes a central character in The Cat Returns.

And it's called The Cat Returns.

Whisper of the Heart:
Quote
Shizuku finds a cat riding a train and follows it, discovering an antique shop run by Shiro Nishi. At the shop is a cat statuette, "The Baron."

The Cat Returns:
Quote
Haru meets Muta, a large white cat the voice told her to seek for directions, who leads her there to meet the Baron (the same Baron from Whisper of the Heart), who is a cat figurine given life by the work of his artist,

Up to Episode 8 in Cowboy Bebop. This is definitely getting significantly better than the first few episodes were. Everyone's showing personalities.

Whisper of the Heart / The Cat Returns <= these two seem to, through the character of the Baron, but i forget if any scenery is shared.

I was going to say this but you beat me to it,  although both movies feature the baron, I don't think they are in the same world, because whisper of the heart also makes slight reference to porco rosso, so I think those things were just like call outs to other ghibli films.

Or perhaps the Baron can travel through dimensions.

It isn't the only time nonsense has traversed into his movies.

Made by Masamune Shirow in 1983, and then turned into an OVA in 1987.

Masamune Shirow also made Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell, but I myself like Black Magic more.

If you click the photo you might see some sideboob.

Don't click Wicked City on the suggested videos, or you will get a face full of gaping, toothed, spider-woman vagina.

It's actually a tribute because Miyazaki didn't actually make Whisper Of The Heart himself, a colleague did, it was his first directing role and then he died. So they resurrected The Baron for his own film.

So technically, even if you see it as a sequel, it's not Miyazaki making a sequel to his own film, and the Porco Rosso references in Whisper were themselves paying Homage to Miyazaki

In anime-esque news: I just finally finished off Persona 4, I started it about a week or so ago at a friend's cajoling at how good it was. I was immediately turned off at first by how the game seems to start by running in hands-off visual novel-style story mode for maybe a solid 2 hours with only a save point every half hour. My friend kept on assuring that it gets better, so that's the only reason I stuck with it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And that's my summarized thoughts of the game.

Oh yeah, I've seen Black Magic M66. One of those good but short little things.

<snip>
Then might I suggest you watch Persona 4 The Animation. It might really improve your overall experience as some "gameplay" elements are removed for more characterization I guess. Especially the Main character Yuu as he's no longer a silent mute and has some interesting reactions (which obviously will be more appreciated by those who've played it...which I haven't :P)

Now my fingers are all cut up and bloody.

Halfway done with Cowboy Bebop. I'm really liking it. There's not much more to say.
