I've always been rather reluctant to involve myself with real-life anime clubs and such, because it seems like almost every person I meet who is interested in it is the stereotypical self-insert writing, cat-ear wearing weeaboo who constant spouts gratuitous Japanese. I know maybe two people IRL who have an interest in anime beyond DBZ that aren't creepy fanatics about it. :|

Yeah that is a problem.

There needs to be an anime club out there for people who are REALLY into anime... but not... THAT into anime.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

You'll also have to start wearing torn thighhighs and fuzzy handcuffs, and maybe gain a few hundred pounds.

People wear handcuffs? I know some anime/cosplayers but they've never been that over the top with it. The anime crowd here never went full weeaboo thankfully. Not that many people here like anime though so it's a fairly solitary activity for most anyway. Might be in part because we don't have that perverse extra curricular high school club culture that the US and Japan seem to have.

The first two I can do, but I'm always trying (and failing) to gain weight. Most people think I'm anorexic.

Finished Ran's route in Sengoku Rance.  Heard there's two endings though and I have a lot of characters to clear anyway.

you've had ANIME clubs?!
...darn it all, darn it.
All I have is the online communities.
Plus sporadic idiots I know who when you mention something, anything at all, like "There's this Japanese cartoon" immediately ask the question: "Hentai?"
And the only Otaku thing they have is one or two bleach mangas, and maybe naruto.
...I've started having the feeling It's like being a Hipster not following the mainstream of only watching bleach or naruto.
Sure, it makes me cringe whenever I get to read a fate/stay (I simply can't survive drama. I'm too emotional for that) but really...
Kind of wonder what I should do to open an anime club at my university...

“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

One thing I sort of find hillarious in anime is the clear double standard

If the heros use a trick it is strategy or glorious comeback.

If the villains use a trick it is a devious manuver that is on par with cheating.

I've rarely seen this challenged. I've seen Heros use "Dirty tricks" but I don't think I ever seen a villain use a trick that the series handled as a perfectly viable strategy.

This happens in videogames too. Whenever your characters need to win a competition, they have no problem cheating to win, and THEN patting you on the back afterward like you're a real smart guy. Of course if anyone else tries to do something like that, they're just cheaters and need to be punished.

And Re: Anime clubs, when I frequented MCTI, I had an anime club too. Well, I never went there, because I didn't like that particular crowd. Cat ears, cat paws, and cat tails? Oh yeah, one girl would just walk around with those on. Though I also feel they served some odd sexual double purpose that I purposefully avoided asking about.

I've been watching Cowboy Bebop off and on for at least year now. It's not bad or anything. I just get sidetracked or lose my free time.

Anyway, I finished episode 11 last night. Oh the lessons I learned. Protip: don't leave overripe shellfish in your fridge for a year. It might evolve and kill you.

Best course of action: Throw it outside the airlock. Because being a dick to the future generations will save your hide, and just maybe, that might evolve into the Thing given a century to rest.

I think a lot of sports manga have at least one antagonist who is above the main character in legit strategy and execution.

Outside of sports, I can think of a few other examples where the villain bests the hero with a strategy of some sort, but it's not acknowledged much by the others since they're too busy being crushed at the hero's loss, or they're pissed off at the villain and don't want to give kudos.

There's a new chapter of Wild and Horned Hermit out now. Not really big news, except I found out who appears in this chapter already.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I guess some people might be interested in these news.
