Ok I thought of a new game slash category

"Least Motivated Main Cast Ever!"

Ever had an anime where the heros just seem to lounge around when they really should be kicking it into high gear? Where their lives and that of everyone around them is at stake and somehow pancakes seem more important.

Rules:
-Chose an anime where the main cast HAS a plot they CAN affect yet they seem to ignore.

My nomination: Season 2 of Mermaid Melody

What is this? A nearly dietific entity threatens to destroy the world and it takes absolutely ALL of your power to even fend it off?

Well thats boring, instead lets try to get your boyfriend back and have all the main characters seperate just to make it easier.

What could make this example worse? The first season... In the first season while they did meander about (its Teenaged girls what do you expect?) they did bring the fight to the enemy and planned ahead multiple times often speaking and co-ordinating their efforts on how to defeat him. The reason they often couldn't is because his fortress was hard to find and he was nearly impossible to defeat himself. So it isn't like they forgot how strategy works.

Dammit Kobold stop linking Nasu stuff!  It's not healthy for anybody...I'll check these out later.  Oh okay I watched the video, pretty neat I guess.  I would have much prefered like a Fate/zero RPG or VN though, that would be awesome.  Especially if it was a new scenario.

I'm a bit into Chapter 4 of Corpse Party.  I'm going to hold any opinions for now and let it all pan out first...

Dipped into Katawa Shoujo before watching another episode of Madoka.

Got a Kenji bad end first, then on the second run, ended up with Rin's route. It was interesting.

I've never seen the anime, but I can say that the manga is very good.

Fate/stay night is a prerequisite for Fate/zero and it is also a prequel.  I haven't seen the F/sn anime but the Fate/zero LN is definitely following the F/sn VN and ufotable adapts Fate/zero very well.

Okay I read Tsuki no Sango.
Daaaaaaaaw that was sweet.  :3  I shouldn't have expected murder and death in every Nasuwork even though this one was a bit apocalyptic.

I countered all this gloriously by watching the two Denpa teki na Kanoki OVAs by Brain's Base.  They were pretty good, both of the story arcs were pretty fulfilling and the endings were completely ridiculous.  Besides the aforementioned ridiculousness there was a real huge lack of male characters besides Juu.  I mean sure everybody likes their crazy ladies but come on at least add some more male characters when something is clearly not a harem series oh wait I guess it could be?

This scene gave me huge Higurashi images.  Seriously they look just like Satoshi and Rena, then they're in a school classroom, AND there's a baseball bat!  Maaaaaan.

And it's 5am...welp.  I was going to continue playing Corpse Party but maybe this is enough murders for one day.

I actually played a bit of Katawa Shoujo about a year ago. I presume it was one of their incomplete demos.

I found it largely boring with uninteresting characters outside of their disability gimmicks... except the clinically insane, bigoted, big glasses idiot guy. He's one of those loathsome and disgusting characters you can't help but love. Every scene he was in was friggin' hilarious.


I gave up on the game after my choices did the exact opposite of what I intended them to do. Twice. Okay, so taking the "push yourself" choice on the track field makes the protagonist be a jackass and lose the girl... I'll pick the "take it easy" choice for this uphill scene. Cue the character again being a jackass and storming off. Facepalm. EDIT: or was it the other way around? I forget.

I think "Push yourself" put you into her route. "Take it easy" stopped you from going into her route. They may have changed the dialogue though, since he never came out as a jackass for either choice in my eyes. In any case, most VN's I've played where I was given choices had choices that led me to conclusions I was not expecting or caused the character to say things I didn't mean, so I don't bag it on it much for that.

Overall, I don't know how I feel about Katawa Shoujo either.

Nothing in Rin's or Emi's routes got me to Planetarian levels of sad or Yume Miru Kusuri levels of "Oh shit, why is this happening," but Planetarian crushed a bit of my soul, and YMK was full of "I'll stop here for a bit," so that might not be very fair comparisons. Rin's route went in directions I didn't expect at all at least.

Everything was more tasteful than I expected, and in Rin's route, her disability seems to be actually underplayed.

The writing can come off as wonky at times, and the dialogue ranges from funny to ultra-melodramatic mode, but oh well, such is life in a VN. I've only read Rin's and Emi's route, but some issues and conversations drag on for quite a while, the only difference is that Hisao just gets more pissed as time goes on. There's not much closure in the endings either.

The art is really inconsistent though, and it's very obvious that they had multiple artists working on it. The animation quality is inconsistent at times as well, but I like Rin's video (there's nothing spoiled) a lot though.

Music doesn't stand out much. Parity is the only track that actually sticks in my head.

It's definitely a valiant effort for something outside of Japan, though.

Oh I just finished Chapter 4 of Corpse Party.

That was amazing.

Gog damn the ending I got in this chapter was ridiculous.

This was lovely, lovely lovely!  I spent about two hours playing Chapter 5 and ending up with the 4th star or 3rd bad ending on the list. 

It was a complete and utter train wreck and the voices were glorious glorious

All of the characters were just going insane.  My guess is because I purposely let Kizami catch Satoshi's sister just to see myself get a quick bad end

I was wrong

Morishige goes absolutely batshit when he realizes Mayu is the corpse he was most happy of, not that we was keeping it together in the first place.  Satoshi is just angry spriting it around and then I get pentagrams to switch between parties and Ayumi goes crazy blah blah

I have to say Kyon's VA does an amazing job with Kizami it's totally out of character for him I never would have guessed.  I mean when he catches Satoshi's sister it's not just some quick halfassed scene we get to see that Kizami is a total Kotomine nutjob and then little miss Sachiko comes in with her giant hammer mook and hammers Kizami out for the count, I'm a little disappointed that's how he dies because I found his death name tag and everything.

Anyway when I was playing this I didn't realize this bad end was so long I mean

the music was great

and Ayumi and Yoshiki had a cool scene when talking with Yuki (the girl missing her left eye) I really like some of these characters.

Ayumi starts acting really funky and destroys Naomi's paper though which is odd, she had to have been possessed or something because she says contradictory stuff later.  She also finds a pentagram room and I finally can connect Chapter's 4 Extra Ending to this.

Satoshi then finds a photo (almost certainly placed by Sachiko) and spazzes the fuck out it was great the despair the despair zetsubou shita

Satoshi and Yoshiki end up with 'the darkening' though and Ayumi punches the shit out of Naomi, the end.

The End.

Every character that went in during the beginning dies except Satoshi and Yoshiki who will die very shortly and Ayumi who I guess will just fall into endless despair.

Of course there's more character who died in the present besides the initial nine but it doesn't really matter.


I really wonder if Seiko or Mayu can be saved but I'm not sure...of course if Mayu can't be saved then Morishige most certainly cannot either.

I still have to get all the Chapter 5 endings, a few other bad ends I missed, and I tried Extra Chapter 1 but I need more name tags!  I'll have to play through them all after I get 100% in the main story...

Oh god do I love psychological horror stuff.  What's the point in doing anything otherwise.  What's the point?!

Yes I've ratted on Tsukihime for being ridiculous and corny but I finished it and delve into everything related to it, why?  Why would somebody who shows displeasure with something continue to pursue it?  Because it interests him.  It's interesting.  Murder, rape, suicide, nasty disturbing things!  Betrayal, despair, confusion, anger!  It's amazing!  It's lovely it's perfect it's beautiful.  Who could live in a world without such pleasures without such divinities.

I am truly honest, maybe I'm confusing fiction and reality but I really really enjoy fiction I read involving these items.

I've wondered why I found Neon Genesis Evangelion to be such a good show, I had to keep experiencing it.  I read all of the manga and every other thing about it.  Was it because I just liked the pretty 90's 4:3 imagery or was it something more?

It was the tragedy

the failure

the shortcoming

the massacre

And then, I think of Madoka.  Wasn't that suppose to be something really similar?  Instead of mecha is it was magical girl, heck even Urobuchi wrote it who wrote one of my favorites Fate/zero.

But I didn't like it.  I can only conclude it was too cute and fluffy magic-y.  I didn't really like Kyowhiteanimal thing and while I did enjoy Sayata (blue hair) a bit and Homura's time traveling was interesting and probably my favorite episode that's about it.

I loved Shinji's character from NGE (or heck F/sn too), but Madoka was always suffering

Anyway, spoilers aside (heh I'm gonna have to go back and mark spoilers are for real here too) this is how it should be.

Of interesting note is I am also really enjoying my readings of the Haruhi series.  Woah?!  Haruhi?!  Isn't that really slice of life-y and Kyoto?!

I don't know.  I'm half way through book 7 and I have to say Suzumiya Haruhi is a really good read.  It's lighter in tone than almost anything I do but it has the magic touch.  It dwells into characters and has a hint of sinister lining.  If you look into some of the more heavy speeches you can conclude that there are a lot of issues going on behind the scenes and that's what you need for a developed 'world' I guess.

Universes are a very good idea.  Writing series for a universe keeps everything connected and also gives fans a buttload to read.  Everything starts small though so be patient just nurture it into growth so it can do its business...

Yeah I don't know(no se), this kind of dates back to just my life in general.


When I was younger (like before High School) I just...drifted through life.  Did things I enjoyed simply.  Tried to anyway, I found difficulty in finding what I could possibly enjoy and after I entered High School I was mainly just holding the belief to succeed in life like a good person and not ever get in trouble.  Well high school ran its course and by the second year I was despairing, despair for life and "how cruel it was" because I was bored and malleable.  It was definitely a low point.

But then...fiction.

Fiction.

What is this, fiction.

End of my Sophomore year I picked up the first Ace Attorney game on a whim while getting my brother Pokemon Diamond or something.

It was great.

I started reading Detective Conan at night before going to bed, read pages and pages.  Murder mysteries.

Played all the way to Apollo Justice, this was before Investigations was even out (I would get that and beat that eventually)

Started my anime and eventually Japanese culture career in December 2009 (first half of Junior year, see a connection) with Baccano, again on a whim.  It was enticing.

I never really watched or read anything.  I just floated through life trying to entertain myself with shiny and COMPLETE BULLSHIT argh I could have started sooner much sooner


I've wondered at night, if a man was given the choice of immortality and turned it down I would beat the crap out of him and ask him where it went to.

Why would you not want to be immortal.  Live forever, experience forever, never ending pleasure.  If you're some sorry sap who isn't strong enough to live forever then give that opportunity to me, seriously.  I can make it.


Phew, well I don't know where I was going here.  Guess writing idle thoughts before bed is better than thinking them while unsuccessfully going to sleep, but then again...I will probably think these stupid ideas anyway.


Oh lastly!  I keep editing this and it will probably show, anyway.

I've noticed a trend where I started with anime and now I find myself reading novels all the time, is this what is suppose to happen?  To look into such detail, the detail of words.  It's really fulfilling.

Something I liked about the path was how they wrote the panic attack scene. I was fidgety just because of how clear the scene was in my head, and just how plain realistic everyone in the scene reacted.

Cold Iron can also chill with Parity as tracks that stand out. A lot of the piano pieces are nice to listen to.

Rin's cinematic is still far and away the best.

Finished yet another (bad) ending in Chapter 5 of Corpse Party, only took me three hours.  It's kind of amazing really.

I saved Yuka this time.  Kizami still gets hammered to death but pretty much everything else was vastly different.

I was able to bring Yoshiki along with Ayumi, which helped her stability a lot.  Also Satoshi and Naomi meet up with Yuka of course.

Seiko and Mayu are still dead.  Morishige and Ms. Yui still die.  :[

Afterwards we ended up meeting in a bomb shelter underground tunnel after I made at least five choices and must have gotten SOME right.  I say this because my bad end was the last star listed.

It ends with the remaining five chanting the Sachiko thing and escaping, then Satoshi realizes (since he's Keiichi) they just TIME LOOPED THEMSELVES

WRONG END

I'm so close to getting the TrueEnd in Chapter 5, soooo close I can taste it (with my functioning tongue).  Afterwards I'll need to clean up and get the rest of the bad ends.  I'm missing one or two in Chapter 1 and 2 while Chapter 3 and 4 are fully done.  Chapter 5 has sooo many bad ends I'm missing right now.  The possibilities.

This isn't even counting the ten Extra Chapters, I must see the Byakudan(SIC) School one and that better exist or else Corpse Party is doing itself a disservice.

Finished Shizune's path in Katawa Shoujo. I thought it was boring. I liked Misha more than Shizune, and I liked Shizune more in the other characters' routes than in her own.

For me, Rin>=Hanako>=Lilly>Emi>>>Shizune.

It was pretty nice overall. I think it's worth recommending, especially for people that haven't really played much VNs. There's a lot of dialogue that's cheesy, but it's still an interesting read.
