Kobold Cave
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:52:29 pm »

So, I've gone on a one-man campaign of genocide and kobolds are next on my checklist.

The only complication being that I can't find them.

How do I get caves to show up on the map?  I know the square the kobold cave should be in, but it's a huuuuuuuuuuge area to wander around looking for caves.

'Wander' is the key word.  You're going to be looking a while, 'cause there's no other way to find it.

If you're willing to put in the effort, you could use savescumming.  Copy the world, and embark on the cave to see the layout.  Losing the fortress also makes the kobolds disappear, so you'll have to savescum.

Yes, I've also found this fairly irritating, perhaps a tracking skill could make this task a little less onerous... hmm, time to hit the suggestion forum... that's figuratively hit, definitely not literally

I know if you (t)ravel in an area with a town, and select the square you're currently in, a map of the area, with the town icon over the squares it occupies shows up. I don't know if the same happens for caves.

Somehow, that fills me more with dread than anticipation.  It's like being told that someone's exhuming your favorite grandparent and they're going to try to make her into a cyborg stripper.

I thought there was a way to get caves to show up on the map automatically on world generation.

Yeah, it's a clearly labeled yes/no option.

Except, Y'know, he needs to check it DURING worldgen. If you havnae genocided one of the major races, nag them about the surrounding area and they might clue you in. Also, your world may not have kobolds.

Found them.  Making a fort in the square helped me figure out the general location of the cave.
