I find it hilarious and perfect, in fact, that if you piss off one country too much, they just park a gunship off your island, and if you piss them off more, it's game over, period.  Because they have bigger guns.  No matter what.

Well, I was thinking the US/USSR would send in a huge squad to attack your country, and you may win the battle or lose the battle, and if you win, your country stays alive for another year before the Superpower tries again. It is very rare that you would win in the first engagement, but if you did win, well, that would be a pretty big embarrsement to the Superpower, no?

You can invade a country with >100 troops?

Wait, you can?

Either way this thread has gone long enough without me re-installing tropico and giving it a whirl again - and tell you what - this time I'll even play the tutorial again.

Is that game actually originally german? Because it's one of the few games I can stand with the german voice acting. It's in fact brilliant.

No, you can't invade anyone.  You're tiny.

And the English voice acting in this game is great, too.  SPECIFICALLY the English voice acting.  I love the tourist quotes.  "graSEEyas!"

Yeah, the german version has the americans too.  ;D

And the "tropicans" sound mighty .... mexican? Doesnt have a german accent or anything...

But the advisor, the guy that is talking all the time, that one is german ... with the most hilarious accent ever.

ive tried playing tropico, but as i continue to grow, i hit a wall.....for some reason everyone stops going to places, then complains that there isnt enough of the place they aren;t going to, and i already set that places prices on the edge, any lower and it would make no profit

What I would like is if the military has more use (you could invade other countries and defend against an invasion by the USA or USSR).
Hell yeah, I want Bay of Pigs on my island.

Then let them make no profit.  Here's thing that could go wrong:
- Price is higher than their wage
- Not enough spending money, make this or other stuff cheaper
- Wrong dress code (only use that for tourists)
- Nightclubs etc in a power shortage
- All spots are full
- Not enough employees (education vs. religion+healthcare)
- Too far away, or stuff is too spread out
- Only pubs when they want food, cabarets, gambling, etc
- Prohibition vs. pubs and nightclubs

And just a little btw: I know its hard to think that way ( :D ) but a lot of places dont really need to make profit. Lose money with the stuff that keeps your people happy, get your income from the "real" industry and tourism buildings.

The feelgood buildings are just there to keep everybody more efficient or to keep tourists interested in your island.

The real mola comes from the banks, the hotels, the mines, the farms and the factories.

The developers are going to answer any questions you have about T3, so ask here. You got until Wed. April 29th, so hurry!

Also, I don't remember who asked for the game to reward dictators with POINTS, but...somebody has modded in the Tyrannical Scoring System, which rewards tyranny.

That's what I'd usually do, when I had a successful island up and running. I liked to give the people good, if not great, housing for free, and make my money through industry/tourism.

It's important not to make everything free.  You want to give priority housing to your best-educated citizens, who make the most money and are most important to keep!

I've been thinking of a LP in the same vein as "Sniper Joe", altough not now. I have two different ideas...
*An Allatoyah-Presidente Who Is Friends With the Intellectuals
*A Military Junta With No Elections and "Rebels Yell"
