In the morning, Omath Erius' body is discovered; his front door and his windows are unlocked and parts of his body are over most of his home's entryway. His head is mangled and his torso has gaping holes and tooth marks.

Concerned, scared, enraged, you decide there will be a death dramatic locking-in-jail before the day is done.

I suspect Omath Erius was killed because of his participation in the previous behaviour in this Werewolf:

He correctly guessed the identity of some werewolves.
Therefore, the werewolves have probably played in that Werewolf, or atleast the majority of the werewolves have.

Maybe we could try a Victory By Diplomacy thing. I used to play Age of Empires 2 online a lot, and we managed to get everyone into an alliance a few times. Are the werewolves up for that?
