Now you ask me, how does a thermometer beat the LHC. Well, the LHC is powered by a nuclear reactor, somewhere in France. Which is cooled by river water. Well as soon as that temperature reaches a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius*, an automated system triggers**, and the reactor shuts itself down***.
