Tower-Cap Trap Components
« on: December 06, 2008, 01:37:50 pm »

Does anyone else think it's pretty awesome that your starting civilization can make large serrated circular blades... out of wood?  It's true.  They can also make giant axe blades out of the stuff.

I've taken to bringing at least one with me when I embark on a journey, just as a joke.

I think you can make them out of wood and glass in Fortress Mode, too.  Trap components are weird like that.

They both do 50% damage, however, which (depending on your perspective) relegates them to torture traps or challenging yourself with weaker traps.

Even a single no quality 50% damage wood serrated disk will seriously wound a goblin sized creature,  and has a decent chance of killing it outright via severed head/lower/upper body. 2 - 3 wood/glass disks is plenty, and will kill pretty much anything till they jam. (megabeasts might survive.. if they are lucky).

Which is why I think it's kind of funny that some people make traps with 10 masterwork steel/adamantine disks per trap. talk about overkill!

Yeah, ten things in a weapon trap will ruin the day of pretty much anything, no matter what they are.  ...well, maybe not whips, but still.

And hey, overkill is dwarfy!  What's more complex, a single ball made of wood, or ten painstakingly-manufactured, perfectly-honed incarnations of blood-soaked death in an intricate array designed for maximum lethality? ;D

I make weapon traps with maiming in mind so my military can go out and shank the wounded before they can flee.  I love the daggers the thieves bring for this reason.

I suddenly have the urge to make ice spikes somehow. Then throw them as icicles...

The trap specific weapons are possibly the most deadly thing in the game!

Do Spiked balls and Serrated disks keep their damage when you throw them?
