i always laugh when my dwarfs mince liquids.

i once had a dwarven whine roast made entirely out of "well minced dwarven wine".

actually, i had 14 of those.

I think we don't mind bugs too much because
a) The game is alpha; we expect bugs
b) The bugs get fixed quickly, especially the more severe bugs
c) Most bugs would be described as features by most other developers

The game is as much a simulation as a game, aiming to be fairly realistic, so any bugs are usually humorous in that they stray from realism and are completely nonsensical.

THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD! *Guards attack the guard, the guard that hit the guard gets attacked by the other guards, then they get attacked by the other guards and so on*

Or dwarves milking burning cows is funny as hell.

I saw the image in my mind and immediately laughed. Has DF damaged me beyond salvation?!

If I wanted to recreate the world of one of my favorite stories, I should be able to specify that there is a civilization called Groan, ruled by Earls from a castle called Gormanghast.
You won't have trouble supplying the Countess with cats, or producing the annual idols to be offerred to the castle. Every fortress is a pale reflection of Ghormenghast..

This is why AI's won't take over the world any time soon:

Normal people don't have to be told not to milk a cow that's on fire.

(Not that dwarves can even milk cows yet).

I don't know man, I know I touched the hot stove as a kid. An AI would just need to grow like us to understand the finer points of not being stupid

Sometime in the future, DF is complete and recognized as the first truly immersive world simulator.
Scientists attempting to develop a working AI use DF as a a testing ground for their creations, confronting them with life-like simulations of the real world.
No one notices the slight discrepancies in their behavior.
The first of the AIs is released into the real world.
5 years later our civilization has crumbled to its end, after a period that will later be chronicled by the survivors as "The Boatmurdered Years."
People just couldn't leave those f#&$ing socks alone.

The most honorable way for a dwarf to die is not in battle, not by fishing, not by magma, not by a collapse, but by failing to retrieve socks.

The most honorable way for a dwarf to die is not in battle, not by fishing, not by magma, not by a collapse, but by failing to retrieve socks.

Specifically, a burning masterwork giant cave spider silk sock lying next to several dozen Spirits of Fire, with the bodies of numerous champion marksdwarves nearby. The corpses are on fire too.
