Something I've noticed
« on: December 06, 2008, 10:17:55 am »

Why is it, that in DF, that bugs become memorable and funny?

In any normal game, a bug occurs and five minutes later you're on a forum typing in all caps screaming "ZOMG FTW?!" about it.

However, in DF, the carp having default bite attacks is actually hilarious instead of angering(Which I'm not even sure is a word) and dwarves lemming rushing to get the crap is funny.

Or dwarves milking burning cows is funny as hell.

There are some hilarious bugs in other games too. In TF2 there's the crab spy bug, for example.

Well for the most part, so long as the bugs arent game breaking, people just put up with them, DF is an alpha after all.

however you still get plenty of RABBLERABBLERABBLE when something breaks DF, the sleeping bug recently comes to mind.

I dunno, the sleeping bug was pretty fun. Really, I think it's twofold: First, the game is of such quality that bugs are almost never gamebreaking, instead being "emergent features". Secondly, the community is, and I say this as fair as I can, almost entirely awesome. Nobody gets too riled up because, hey, they paid (or didn't pay) of their own free will and know that an alpha will do that to you.

I find the bug where it snows under water to be funny.

Really just check this page.

The best bug ever was the one where if the Hammerer somehow got his/her arms removed and couldn't use the hammer, the Hammerer would bite people's arms and legs off and store it in his/her mouth instead.

Hardcore.

The best bug is the farmer who picked up his bed and planted it in the plot.

YOU LIE!

000089 ▨ (doesn't reproduce) [dwarf mode][jobs][cooking and food] a farmer walked into a room, grabbed a bed, and planted it

I sentence you to three hammer strikes!

We do post "ZOMG FTW", if you consider that "FTW" stands for For The Win. Just because idiots misuse the word doesn't mean that it means what they think.

It's because DF's bugs often times come about from the game being too realistic in its simulations to anticipate everything that might go wrong.    Like rum roasts melting 'coz they're made of rum.

Another thing I've noticed:

You can make any animal into leather.

So, basically, a kitten can cover your entire body with it's skin.

Naturally, cats are butchered all the time so many expirements have been done to strech the material as far as it can go.
