How do you get a dwarf to go in a berserk rage effectively?

I was playing around with this in an hermit game which got a bit boring so I used a wave of immigrants to try this out.

I chose a dwarf with 2 pets and lots of friends. Locked him in a room, starved and thirsty he became. Still a bit content so I built a drwabridge and crushed his pets and 2 frieds. yet he only became miserable and he stayed so for quite awhile so I myself went berserk and ordered half of the survivors under the bridge and off they went. This still didn't make the lonely sucker go berserk not even tantrum although the rest of the population just went tantrum crazy killed each other destroyed everything and eventually the crippled survivors dierd of thirst as they destroyed the farm and still. Some did go berserk but near the end of the tantrum spiral.

Just how much does it take to get a dwarf berserk?! on a side note that lone dwarf for some reason didn't get involved in the tantrum spiral he survived it only to die of thirst even though the door got detroyed.

So any easier way to get some homicidal crazed dwarf then destroying a small community?

Maybe the dwarf in question has the "doesn't really care anymore" profile description (v->p->z). If he does have this tag then he will take much more to turn berserk.

I presume you tried making a soldier go berzerk.Most soldiers get that tag,for best results,try a legendary miner.

Nah he was a blank slate brand new batch of imigrants hadn't witnissed a massacre or anything I checked he still didn't have the doesn't care about anything anymore even near the"end" of the spiral when all his aquaintances had tried to kill eachother.. and succeeded for the most part.

Yah I noticed this in yet another orchestrated homicidal disater in the same fortress using annew batch of imirgants. This time like 5 of them went straigh berserk and the tantrum only came when the crippled survivors were screaming gibberish whilst spasing out on the floors all about the place. Man those skelletal dears sure like the taste of fresh dwarves... oh the screams...

Anywho I find it quite interesting to watch these disasters unfold but I did find a problem when it comes to recording all this winning. I keep a survivor who was in the whole mess and let him refuge in my hermit's underground palace so he can engrave the gory details but alas this fails. Bad experience makes it a pain to get deatailed engravings and rarely do they relate to the goresomeness.

What excatly does it take for a dwarf to engrave murderous events? I managed to get my hermit to engrave himself bashing up deers but alas the survivor just loves sribbling random crap like cheese! Does he have to be directly involved eg. I killed a DWARF!!muahaha i gotta tell the world by engraving it!? ... ?

You can only engrave history if you're highly skilled I'm afraid. Dwarves dying is a part of history

Does the game allow a dwarf to engrave an event he or she didn't personally see? If so, it's simply a matter of levelling up your hermit and letting him engrave it all. If it doesn't allow this, let your sole survivor smooth vast expanses of rock until he gets skilled enough, and then let him engrave.

Also, caravan people usually go berserk if they can't go home. If the allegiance of the people going berserk doesn't matter to you, let a few elves cook up for a few months in a sealed chamber with cage traps. The cage traps snatch them when they go berserk and supply you with a can of whoop-ass, ready to be released in the enemy's general direction (specifically, aimed at the next elven caravan that dares go near your fortress).

A few of my Dwarves have engraved pictures of Dwarves killing Elves in various ways, even though I have not slaughtered any elves in this fortress.

So it is definitely possible for Dwarves to engrave things they didn't personally see, that happened sometime in history.

You can probably mod the game so all of the dwarves have it

You can add the tag [PERSONALITY:ANGER:100:100:100] to dwarves in creature_standard.txt and this will make all dwarves permanently furious (at least all new dwarves, maybe old too).  You don't need to gen a new world.

Combine this with [NOFEAR] and get at least one dwarf to go berserk.  Enter massive brawl.
