Boiling Furnace Operator

Flagrant cheating aside, what's wrong with this reaction?  It results in a pile of cardinal skulls, generic tallow, and boiling bone.

Are you sure you can use plants in a reaction like that? Try seeing if that's the culprit.

I know the reagent is missing!  That shouldn't have any effect on what comes out of the smelter, though.

The plant doesn't seem to be the problem.  The sliver barbs come out just fine right before the boiling bone liquifies them.

Upon further experimentation, it looks like the skulls come out as some kind of bird's skull no matter what I enter as the matgloss.  Strange...

EDIT:

It seems like the matgloss for bones is the creature itself and not BONE:CREATURE.  Anything other than a creature name results in boiling bones freezing everyone solid.
