The rules are simple. We have here an 8x8 board. It's a standard Chess board.
Only, we're not playing Chess.

We're playing Penultima.

We have 2 players and 6 spectators.

Spectators will give their order of preference for TOTALLY REDEFINING THE RULES of the Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, and King. Read the link, it'll make total sense then if you don't get it in some way now.

As a minor variation from the link's rules, all spectator rules will be PMed to me.

I still didn't understand something. Rule changes are in effect throughout the game? Each spectator will get a piece, so will you roll the dice and determine the order in which the spectators claim pieces? You need to mention things like that, because the link describes a board game, not a messageboard game.

I'll be one of the spectators. The order of preference - Rook, Queen, Knight, Pawn, Bishop, King. I'll PM the rule changes once I think them up.

Oh, btw, just how obscene can the rules be? Must the moving of the piece END with taking a piece, or can we do a checkers kind of thing?

Look up most pieces in Ultima Chess. That'll give you some ideas.

I'm going to look at the piece list and suggest a piece-assignment set and see if it's agreeable to everyone.

What's the point of the preference list if you pick only one per spectator and allow only one rule per spectator? Wouldn't it be better to arrange the spectators (using dice or just the order of application) and have them each claim a piece instead, as the board game rules say? As I understood, the rules are set once per match and the players have to figure them out by trial and error.
