Skullcrusher Mountain - A Biodome Community Fortress
« on: December 01, 2008, 09:46:51 pm »

I spun the wheel of random challenges and hit on biodome. I honestly don't think this is going to be too hard, or too eventful unless I make it be eventful. I plan on embarking on an area with:
an underground river
aquifer
Adamantine (Which I have avoided since I had feared too deeping, of course not realizing that hasn't happened for several versions.)
And a magma pipe.

The area is in the in the mountain peaks, so noone but the stoutest of dwarves could make it there.

Each individual dwarf in the fort will likely be given a large number of jobs, if not every job minus a few like hunting and fishing. Everyone will become legendary fairly quickly. Everyone will start as peasants. What few migrants we have will die, sadly. But the dwarves will likely breed like crazy after they have dug out a pleasant living. The reports will be yearly due to the slow nature of this type of fortress. I'll have the profiles up shortly. Claim your dwarves before they are gone. I'm not claiming one this time so, 7 dwarves are up for grabs!

The dwarves:

Whoo, me too please!

Kornash, male please
I'll do the real dwarf work (mining) while the rest of you sit on your beards.

Are you going to make an above ground biodome or build it into the mountain?

EDIT, can I take administrative jobs as well?
Just taking track of records and stuff. YOU can lead the party.

EDIT AGAIN: A biodome challenge is holing up within the fortress within the first year. jeez. what excuse are you going to make up for that?

Maybe you can set temperature to a ridiculous height after first year, like 50000, so immigrants will die immediatly.

LegoLord, um, anything that sounds mad and evil for a profession name.
Actual Proffession?  Mechanic/siege engineer/siege operator.  If there's no wildlife, give him hunting and equip him with a sword.

 Duke.
 Farming.
 Whatever gender.

Seeing as dwarf kids take like 12 years to mature, you could in theory prefect autonomy and leave DF running for a day nonstop.

But yes, either edit the maturation age or prepare for more useless kids than productive dwarves.

And I propose the outside dwarves live off of shrubs and constantly spar. Perhaps if some of them survive, form a cult around the biodome. Then when the insiders decide to come out, they are greeted as gods by legendary wrestlers who can backhand a dragon over a mountain.

You know, we could make the biodome with only the original 7, then when migrants arrive they could be left outside to fend for themselves with nothing but a pick to get some stone. While they all struggle to stay alive we could sit inside sipping our *dwarven wine* and eating +kitten tallow roasts+ and laughing at their misfortune.

Oh the possibilities *cackles evilly*

Imp
Mason/Mechanic/whatever other technologically-oriented proffessions you can come up with.
Proffession name: Bodger
Any gender.

Oh, and if you're building your biodome above-ground, throw in glassmaking.

The dwarves are posted at the top. The challenge will be to be sealed in by the first year. All dwarves will be given the order to never go outside. The name of the fortress: Skullcrusher. After one of my favorite Jonathan Coulton songs. http://www.jonathancoulton.com/songdetails/Skullcrusher%20Mountain

Perhaps we'll add in the world domination challenge later. =)
