My fortress has a huge fan following of the Human/Alligator wars of 50 years past.

The Unspeakable Violator. Len Onebolts striking down the alligator Tribescrafted in the Fair Mire in 195

The Bringer of Joy Erab Hushgrowns ambushing Feedmaw the alligator.

The Sudden Diversion Erab striking down the alligator Worshippedtail in 197 in the fair mire

The Hardy Hood Inan Circleflame striking down the alligator Brokenface in 144 in the fair mire

The Truss of Girls Echsa Fanggrowls being struck down by the alligator Acted boards in 136 in the fair mire

The Myth of Strikes: Minat Giltgirlish striking down ForeverBurials the alligator in 176 in the fair mire

The Sensitive Touch Cil Scalyplanter striking down the alligator Dredgeblotted in 111

The Clutter of Tears: The striking down of Tikbo Goodkisses by Blowingfoot the alligator in 213

It goes on like this for nearly 700 years of named alligators striking down or being struck down by humans in the fair mire. Every 3rd engraving, at least, is of the freaking alligator human wars. The slaying of the dragon got a single engraving.

"The Vulgar Rags" This is an exceptionally designed image of Sloron Gilttax the Jade Diamond the Dragon and Shem Roofgorges the Bald Prestige the dwarf by Aisha Attack rag. Shem Roorfgorges the Bald Prestige is striking down Sloron Gilttax the Jade Diamond. This artwork relates to the killing of the dragon Sloron Gilttax the Jade Diamond by the dwarf Shem Roofgorges the Bald Prestige in Anguisheddwells of Snails in the midspring of 306 during the Rampage of the dragon Sloron Gilttax the Jade Diamond in the Anguisheddwellers of Snails.

Edit: Just noticed this.

The Beloved Leaks. Blah blah, degel Dabblingked is raising the Quick Fluke, it relates to the creation...

The Quick Fluke is a Golden Floodgate.

...Nice. The division of form and function. They don't care that it doesn't work, 'cause it's so shiny.

I don't have the save or any screen shots anymore, but here is the story of the best engraving ever made in my fortress.
Contains HFS.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Afterwards he snapped and just scribbled squares and circles no matter how many engravings I made him to do. The fact that Dwarf Fortress is so intricate game that even the number of floodgates was correct makes me quite amazed.

Maybe not the most epic of all, but I laughed the hardest at this image. I really don't want to know why it was carved in the first place

Hello!

No screenshot because the fortress is currently already slow enough, no desire to make restarts/loads/saves just to have IrfanView in the background. Besides, it is a minor thing.

The masterful floor engraving is called "The Young Sinews" and shows how one of my resident dwarves killed a kobold in 2010.

Not that impressive at first sight, but in its proper context, it made me wonder whether the dwarves guessed at my worries: This fortress has a pop cap of 5, so effectively no immigration. Thus far, after the early death of the male part of the only lover couples, no new lovers have met in the fortress, so no children in sight. The fortress was started in 2009 and the engraving above was made in 2045 - 36 years later. I am really distressed as the population of that fortress is growing old and it seems that the first new dwarves I will see will be immigrants after my original dwarves have died of old age (T_T).

Thus, the name of that engraving sounds rather bitter to me.

Can dwarves even die of old age? I didn't think that was implemented in fortress mode yet.

ooh, i just looked irfanview up. very sexy, only a few hundred kilobytes for a lightweight image viewer/editor? sold. also, where should i be posting images? i just looked up the gozru werecircle of my engravings, and it turns out he is actually a she. and she has one hundred and sixty kills, including a fair few giant eagles and sasquatches. she downed one of the sasquatches when she had no legs. and no wonder it was only goblins in my engravings. i embarked in a valley in the mountains that has every goblin civ in the world lodged in the valley walls, and no other civs anywhere nearby. no wonder my sieges are so stupidly big and frequent.

I like this one the most because another Dwarf engraved it on the main pillar in her bedroom just after she was elected mayor. She is clearly the bravest Dwarf.

Hi!

She is called "Manko"?
(^_^;;
That is a rather bad combination in Japanese. "Manko" is a slang term for the female genitals ... (^_^;;

While I am at it, I want to share something about an engraving that has finally come: Marked with a capital "H", it shows how one of the horses of the caravans killed a kobold. I basically knew that the horse had gotten that kill as it earned a name, but it was really nice to see the tale actually confirmed.

Estilvod, "The Whirling Sound"
Engraved on the floor is a superiorly designed image of a demon by Likot Lolorathel. The demon is smeared out into a spiral.
