I've probably said this before, but this thread is useless when people don't actually turn on Show Full History in Fortress Mode.

No, its not. I'm looking for funny or strange engravings, not just a engraving commemorating the broken toe of a kobold by a child. though that is noteworthy. Read the thread to see what I mean. Obscurity can be funny too.

i have an engraving called shasad mugsthith "the music of tourture". it is an exceptionally designed image of a shining sun. man those dwarves must hate the sun.

also, and i know i posted about this here earlier, my dwarves continue to do pictures chronicalling the saga of the goblin Gozru werecircle as over a 50 year period he hunts great beasts around his native home the Tooth of crowding. i have pictures of him (her?) beating to death and laughing at several different giant eagles and tigers and things, and an epic decade long set of encounters with a giant eagle called diamondblame. each time gozru and diamondblame do battle poor gozru seems to lose an appendage, till in the year 159, he finally strikes the eagle down.

a few years later he gets killed by the sasquatch brutemurders. previous engravings indicated gozru had no trouble with sasquatches before this, but diamondblame had at this point removed his hand and an entire leg plus a few fingers, so obviously he was past his prime. i was dissapointed when this engraving showed up as i was hoping to have gozru come hopping in on one leg leading a goblin siege, as he was from my local goblin civ, but it was not to be.

its pretty neat how my dwarves seem to love doing images based on the deeds of this one legendary goblin, i cant wait till im done with this fort so i can go look in legends mode and get a fuller view of his life, he seems like one crazy bastard.

That Gozru chronicle is awesome  8)

Usually my engravers have pretty poor imigination. Its either the usual countless images of the foundingfather or just doodles of lizards and toads.

My last fort though my dwarves for some reason covered the place in engravings of elves being murdered by goblins or other elves. I bet it sent a clear message to that annoying treehugging diplomat

In one of my fortresses, the engravers, the metalcrafter, the leatherworkers, the clothier and the gem setter created a lot of images of a bunch of humans killing named creatures. For example:

Duthalfashuk. "The Worthy Meanness"

Engraved on the floor is an [...] image of Brushstand the sasquatch and Abla Thunderpuzzeled the Principle of Matching the human [...]. Abla Thunderpuzzeled the Principle of Matching is striking down Brushstand. [...]

This motivated me for the first time to check what the legends in DF are about. I noticed nothing special about the humans. Ok, one had around 240 kills, but why the hell did the dwarfs create those images?

Hello!

Well, I haven't had any really great engravings recently (although I like the ones about the elves fighting the goblins' demon), but I had one incident in my recent fortress where I thought "That figures.".

I need to explain first the following: The fortress is located in a large forest area where the elves have been fighting off successsfully human invaders and wiped out a goblin civ led by a demon (although I am not 100% sure whether the elves were actually the ones killing the demon in the end). As I had hoped, a good portion of engravings are about the historic battles, also about wildlife encounters, making things much more interesting than always the foundation of the fortress, fortress symbol, and "I love bats!" type grafitti. So, there is some diversity in the engravings.

Finally, I got my first master engraving, and I got all excited. What event would it show? Maybe a new one about the demon?

I checked.

It was an engraving how the expedition leader came into power ... engraved by that very expedition leader. She is assertive...

On minor notes, I noticed that there are some variants in the engravings I have never seen before.

After a couple of engravings about the demon striking down one elf and others about another elf "getting burnt" in the demon's flames, I got an engraving relating directly to the burning of the upper arm of that other elf. I know engravings can be detailed about wounds, but still, this sounded quite nice.

Another engraving that caught my attention depicted a goblin and a wolf and related to how the goblin "encountered" the named wolf ... no striking down, no maiming, no fighting mentioned. Just their encounter.

Why is it best?
Because its an engraving on the column of the tomb of this very Cog.
The four colums have entire Cog history in the Archwatched:
The foundation of Archwatched, The batman attack, The Undead Gators attack, Death of Cog
This guy managed to kill 4 undead gators with his hammer, ALONE , before finally dieing.
Here is the tomb by the way:

One that was just made in my fortress -
Inolgedor Mas, "The Yellow Evil of Grain".
Masterfully designed image of Zaneg Heldbusts the Amazing Poet of Romance the dwarf by Ablel Ustuthakil. Zaneg Heldbusts the Amazing Poet of Romance is withering away. The artwork relates to the dehydration of the dwarf Zaneg Heldbusts the Amazing Poet of Romance in Portalamazes in the late autumn of 1059.

An alcoholic romantic poet called "Heldbusts"? Perhaps the Duke noticed that not all his ten children look that much like him...

Hello!

I simply have to say this: That biscuit engraving is really awesome. I guess I should set my dwarves to cooking as well :) :) :)

I'm sure Vucar managed to get hold of some rat weed, and I think those aren't cookies but brownies.

I think my dwarves weren't terribly fond of their first leader. The engravings relating to his ascension all have names like the following...

The Dishonest Test
The Gore of Cremation
The Crazed Vision
The continent of distrusting
The Fragment of Death

And here's a couple I thought were nifty...

RE: The scepter. That's what you get for calling a long, cylindrical object like a scepter a name like that.

RE: Rith Questlabors...

...Oy vey. Nearly half of the engravings in my fort are of this dwarf killing an elf. More impressively, they're all of him killing DIFFERENT elves. I was curious about all the hubbub and so I made a copy of the save file, abandoned the fort, and looked him up in legends.

Rith was involved in two battles against elves. In the first one he killed eighty-eight of the bastards. He and another dwarf (Fikod Workedglaze, who despite having fifty-five kills is significantly less popular in engravings) fought off 300+ elves and won.

Sadly Rith lost the second battle, a 225 vs 3 slugfest in the jungle. This was the final battle of his civ, of which he was the last to die.

I was modding for a community fortress to make things more interesting, and I wanted to put in a few little Easter eggs for people to see and giggle about. Well, the last season of my turn came around, and I wanted the Dorf I had named after myself to engrave stuff in his room about the things he'd seen.

And one of the few things I changed was I changed one weapon name, maces, into...well...
