"The Defective Bulb"
Engraved on the wall is a superiorly designed image of Udib Rawlancer the dwarf and dwarves by Logem Fikodsod. Udib Rawlancer is surrounded by the dwarves. The artwork relates to the ascension of the dwarf Udib Rawlancer to the leadership of The Artificial Crafts in the early spring of 301.

(How many dwarves does it take...)

"The Blameless Throne"
Engraved on the wall is a well-designed image of Udib Rawlancer the dwarf and skull totems. Udib Rawlancer is surrounded by the skull totems.
Udib Rawlancer has been re-elected. Funny how this happens...

I've got a few in my current fortress:

"The Stinky Fiend"
"Engraved on the floor is an exceptionally designed image of a dwarf by Udib Ducimlogem"

"The lizard of pregnancies"
"Engraved on the wall in a image of a dwarf by Adil Libashtosed"

A couple of amusingly-named engravings relating to the founding of my fortress:
"The untrustworthy city"
"The Acrid Shack"

"The Gleeful Accident"
(An engraving of a Dwarf shooting a Goblin)

"The Virtuous Fangs"
(A dog killing a goblin)

"The Evil Zenith"
... The artwork relates to the election of the dwarf Imush Bridgecrawled to the position of Mayor.

"The Dabbler of Tentacles"
This is an engraving of Ngokang Twinkledhates withering away.  The artwork relates to the killing of (the goblin) by a trap in Anviltime in the early winter of 206 during Ugotetosp, "The Dangerous Sieges".

"The perfection of peace"
Another engraving of a goblin withering away in a trap.

However, my engravers seem obsessed with the ascension of my original (and repeatedly re-elected) mayor, Kogan Cloisterrain.  Judging my the names of some of the engravings, it seems there may be some controversy about the legitimacy of the elections, and the competance of the mayor...

"The calamitous pantomime"
"The grasping order"
"The vulgar inconvenience"
"The Squeezing Boredom"
"The Puppet of Style"
"The National Deference"
"The defective speakers"
"The dominant tribe"
"The blind corruption"
"The cult of treating"
"The town of bowels"
"The mysterious luxuries"
"The maze of starving"
"The crunch of axes"
"The terror of dunes"
"The defective doctrines"

Several engravings also related to the Kogan Cloisterrain himself:
"The Whirling delight"
"The permenant natures"
"The Larval Pearls" (Kogan himself)
"The church of homages"

There was also one titled "The Messianic" something, but I couldn't find it.  But all in all, it seems that Mayor Kogan has created some sort of personality cult around himself, wormed his way into the position of mayor through a combination of bribery (the "mysterious luxuries") and threates of violence ("The crunch of axes").  However, he has been unable to stop people engraving satirical graffiti all over the walls and floor of the fortress.

Besides, Imush Bridgecrawled seems to have been a much worse mayor.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Interestingly enough, in my fortresses, I get a lot of fanart.

"This is a Cog Fanboy rendition of a finely designed image of a dwarf."

I had a dwarf engrave an image of a dwarf engraving.  He is the only Stone detailing dwarf in my fort so he was probably made a self portrait.

psh. i once got an adamantium throne, and nothing else showed in pictures for years afterwards. every later artifact had at least one adamantium throne on it, sometimes several.

i just got my best ever engraving. this is an engraving of a dwarf and a dwarf. the dwarf is cringing. the dwarf is laughing at the dwarf. or something like that.

when i checked it out with the init options changed it was my hammerer killing a peseant for not fulfilling a mandate. total awesome. sounds like my current hammerer is pretty sadistic.

ive also got lots of images of an ettin killing large numbers of goblins at the local goblin fort from 40 years previous, and a giant eagle fighting a goblin, and then being struck down. the eagle bit actually has 5 images, most are different and actually seem to tell a story of this one eagle vs goblin grudge match. plus i have lots of dogs screaming as they are slaughtered, kobolts getting bitten by my rampant pet cougar population, and the ever present mayors and clouds and tower caps and things.

i didnt know dogs could scream.

any suggestions as to why my dwarfs are engraving lots of events from the nearby goblin forts history, none of which involve dwarfs?

Dwarves, at the moment, have the ability to know every single event ever, and engrave those events.

Yeah, Dwarven schools have books that aren't read, but instead forcefully inserted into their heads.

This one doesn't seem very odd, except when you realize that every masterful engraving (as in, almost all of them) in this fortress all relate to that same dwarf rising to leadership, or happy dwarves toiling
So...my leader is engraving every wall, with pictures of her rising to power...either she's a narcissist, or she aiming to turn my fort into a little communist Closed City, CCCP style
