Yeah it is weird.  I got it to work for the same fortress that it initially rejected.  The only thing I did was turn off my computer for the night, and the next day it worked.

Assertion Failure in PokerToolController bug repro
« Reply #16 on: March 20, 2009, 12:31:32 am »

Sent a PM to the author of the port, but thought I'd post it here - I seem to be able to repro this bug if I set weapon/armor/shield prefs for my hunters, it fails to load with the failed assertion (and writing from DF will overwrite those settings) - so if you're trying to get it to work with a save, try resetting all the weapons prefs first.

wow, I wish I knew this existed. Anyone figure a way to get it to work with 40d9, besides a little bit of cross release save scumming?

I was getting the same error "Invalid job from game: 2".  I saw zimbra's post about armor/shield for hunters. I removed the armor and shield setting for my hunter (m, w) and was able to import the DF data.

This is happening to me as well. DF is most certainly open and running, but when I run Mac Foreman is spits out the "DF not running" error.

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but is there any way this could be compiled for 10.4? I tried, but I'm getting dependency bugs, I'm at a loss on how to solve them...

Any tips are welcome!

After some experimentation, I have reason to believe I understand the bug that seems to be common to Mac Foreman users.  I tested out an old save (~140 dwarves, 40d, OSX 10.5.8) and got the "invalid profession from game: 2" error.  Tried changing weapon, armor, and shield prefs to off for hunters, but that didn't work.  Then I turned off all weapons, armor, and shields in my entire fort, and met with success.  So probably, based on what MrNewton and zimbra have mentioned, I think I have the solution:
DF probably saves weapon/armor data as numbers, not as booleans, and Mac Foreman does not check to see if it's at the end of the list.  As a result, if you have it set to anything other than the first or second settings (Unm/---/--- or Axe/Lth/Bkl), the game stores a 2 or a 3 or whatever in the register that holds that.  Foreman reads this and sees what it thinks is a boolean value holding something ridiculous like 4 and panics, resulting in the program appearing to do nothing, and logging a couple of parsing errors in the console.

Mind you, I haven't done any testing more detailed than what I just mentioned, so this could be completely wrong; it could also use some major follow-up work.  That said, I think this information could at very least make any new versions of Foreman much less difficult to fix this problem for.  Good luck, all.
