Boulder and cliff madness
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:43:34 pm »

Hi, i seem to have a large quantity of boulders on my pretty map and they are ruining my attempts to plan a straight road to the edge of the map and geometrical configurations of aboveground structures. is there a way to remove these?

Another question about cliffs: all my mountains have ramps leading up to them. this bothers me, as in earlier versions i had straight ledges to dig into. are they gone for good?

Thanks for any answers.   ;D

When choosing your area, you can press Tab to switch to steepness mode, you can see how steep the edges are, I think Very Steep doesn't have ramps.

By the way, you can just Designate your miners to dig out the ramps, just un-ramp the area you want to dig into and voila! Straight Ledges.

Removing ramps is a good way to train up new miners, by the way.

IIRC, Toady removed cliffs because they were causing some sort of worldgen problems.  I think they'll be back after he gets it worked out.

Straight cliffs aren't removed btw, it just "takes more" for them to form, meaning a lot of high low variation in world gen.
I have had some insanely high straight (and not only vertical) cliffs in the version.

Ok thanks for the help! i knew that you can remove the ramps but i like the old dwarf fortress style of starting to dig into a straight wall many levels high :)
