Clearing shrubs and other such things
« on: November 28, 2008, 04:54:04 pm »

So! Started out on a rather more challenging map. Dead shrubs (and trees, and other sundry things) everywhere. Can't make farm plots aboveground for the life of me, a distinctly bad thing for my civ which is based on aboveground produce. How can I clear the shrubbery and stuff in my way?

Not entirely sure, but I would imagine that building a floor over it and then deconstructing it should "reset" the tile and remove the shrub.

Trees can be cut down, of course.  Boulders can be smoothed.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Building a road would be more efficient i guess.

Oh, yes! I think I've done that myself actually. In fact...

Why not just accomplish this by making unpaved roads? They do exactly that... clear away growth and grass and leave bare soil, but I don't believe they block actual constructions.

As for boulders you have to smooth those and the resulting stone floor must be muddied

Unfortunately, most of these will leave bare soil, unsuitable for farming.

As far as I know, any non-shrub, non-tree soil is buildable for farm plots.

Getting a soldier on a patrol route to stomp all over a tree sapling or shrub will kill it in fairly short order.

If the layer is of soil, I suggest channeling an area out and making stairs down to it. This manner would leave pure dirt, loam, sand, what have you, untainted by pebbles, boulders, saplings, what have you.

Soil is just dandy for farming, works fine!  :D

Making unpaved roads will clear away vegetation. However, it won't remove pebbles and boulders. The only way to remove those is to build an actual construction, such as a wall, over them and then remove it.
