Halp!
« on: November 28, 2008, 11:55:33 am »

So my only miner died, I'm expecting a siege before the caravan comes because I have the Orc mod and the the goblin family mod. I'm also using the Age of Shadows mod, so I'm playing as gnomes right now.
Anyways, I'm sick of restarting a fort because of stupid mishaps like my only miner diving into a puddle and then slowly drowning because of a kobold thief.
So I tried to edit gnomish picks so I could make one out of wood.
Here's what I did

[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_GNOMISH_PICK]
[NAME:gnomish pick:gnomish picks]
[DAMAGE:65:PIERCE]
[WEIGHT:45]
[SKILL:MINING]
[RANGED:CROSSBOW:SHOT]
[CRIT_BOOST:2]
[TWO_HANDED:4]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:4]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:3]

Somehow, though, I can't make it in the bowyer shop.
even if I change [SKILL:MINING] to, say, [SKILL:CROSSBOW]
what do I need to do?

You have to set the item to be used in the entity tag... or something... Blah blah blah.

I never really understood that part of item modding.

It is set in the entity tag, if it wasn't my miner wouldn't have drowned while holding one.

[RANGED:CROSSBOW:SHOT]

It won't work if it uses a type of ammo that doesn't exist.  You would need to mod in shots as a type of ammo.  If you don't want that, try this for the pick:

[RANGED:CROSSBOW:BOLT]

And this is how tinned food was invented.
Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Shot does exist, but I'll try it with bolts and see if that works.

Maybe you need to gen a new world?  If the fort you are trying this out in was generated before you added that item in, the gnomish picks won't show up.

No, in all the other forts this has worked fine.
Just not this one...

I seem to remember that someone else had a problem with this too, something about the [RANGED:X:X] tag and [DIGGER] being incompatible with each other for some reason.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Ah, alright. I'll remove digger, do what I have to do, and then add it again.

If you add something to the file such as something to be made I am very sure you have to gen a new world for this to work, I ran into somehting like this when I was trying to put masks in for dwarves.

Wait, what?
If they're size 3, they can't use the [MINIMUM_SIZE:4] pick.

Oh i see, they're bigger than vanilla gnomes. Vanilla mountain and dark gnomes are size 3.
