We had P4 & Pentium M processors 5-6 years ago...now we have dual core E8600 and quad core Q9650 processors. So yeah, if we ever gonna have threading in DF, the processors will be able to run even 100x bigger DF worlds in 5-6 years.

dual core E8600
Funny you should mention that specific CPU...
That happens to be the one I'll have in a month.

But yes, threading is the key to larger worlds.

That is an excellent processor Jay, good choice!
I have an E8400, OCed to 3.6Ghz only, but I never have any FPS problems in DF even if I embark on an area which has hundreds of goblins [LL mod + my mod] + wildlife/river/all features:on.

Because my old computer was reduced to scrap due to a virus (ingenious virus that actually intentionally prevents methods to remove it such as redirrecting you from anti-virus sites into fake ones... meaning I must have downloaded it somehow)... I got a new quad core... My old computer was a single core.

I really don't notice a difference... but then again it is a Vista... So its over zealous security devices are slowing things down significantly

Hurr.
DF isn't threaded.
It can only use one core.
You probably got a quad core with ONE core being equal to your old CPU.

No, I was explaining why you're not seeing any improvement.

Anyone here good at all with the painting tools for the world gen? I'd love to have a map of Beleriand, or even a map of Earth, on a 256x256 map. Nano-world.

Are you telling me you actually got rid of your computer because of a virus affecting your *web browsing*? Worst case scenario, couldn't you have just reformatted the hard drive? I mean, I'd say "replace the hard drive" if it involved some sort of boot sector virus you somehow couldn't get rid of, but you didn't mention anything like that.

More specifically G-Flex it made my computer constantly crash and move slowly and prevented any method of removing the virus by redirrecting web searches.

It also disabled my Admin powers even though I was the admin...

So it couldn't have been removed except by reformatting

Yes, but why get a new computer and trash the old one instead of just reformatting the old one? That doesn't make any sense to me. If I'm reading you correctly, you had a computer which would have worked perfectly well if you had simply reformatted the hard drive, but instead trashed it. Am I missing something here?

Truthfully? because my computer was so old that I only kept it because of all the stuff I had on it. (actually that isn't EXACTLY the truth, but still)

The REAL truth is someone heard my computer broke so they bought me a new computer, screen, and speakers... I really didn't need it... that same someone keeps trying to buy me a new tv... I have to keep refusing... It is a perfectly fine Television, it just isn't flat screen (but who honestly needs that?)
