Truthfully? because my computer was so old that I only kept it because of all the stuff I had on it. (actually that isn't EXACTLY the truth, but still)

The REAL truth is someone heard my computer broke so they bought me a new computer, screen, and speakers... I really didn't need it... that same someone keeps trying to buy me a new tv... I have to keep refusing... It is a perfectly fine Television, it just isn't flat screen (but who honestly needs that?)

"So old" to you is still useful to someone else, you know. You could have just given it to someone or donated it. Electronics aren't exactly the most environmentally-friendly thing to chuck in the trash, either.
