[40d] Stay inside order causes dwarves to get stuck outside
« on: November 27, 2008, 10:16:56 am »

Stay inside order causes dwarves to get stuck outside, eventually dieing of thirst.

This bug is already listed: 433, 225, and 95, and possibly related to 454.
All the above bugs however are listed as fixed. They are obviously not fixed as this is continuing to happen. I was sort of idling and chatting on ric and I came back to find two dwarves dead of thirst. I turned the stay inside order back on just in time to save my trader.

The problem as far as I can see is that there are natural locations that get themselves marked as indoors due to having a roof.
The dwarves go there instead, and they can't go back to the stockpiles because they'd have to go outside to get there.

No i didnt have a meeting room, this may have been the problem. The areas the dwarves got stuck in were not marked as indoors

i had it too. activating a meeting zone underground (underground, not just inside) fixed it. i think that dwarves when they are outside and get the "all stay inside" order just delete all jobs or something like it. if there is no meeting zone, the only thing they can do is standing where they are, and waiting.

The 'k' menu descriptions of inside/dark/underground are kind of meaningless.  I *think* the relevant criterion in this case is "underground," but not positive.

This happened to me as well.

To stave off the cave-adaptation, I removed the ceiling from a few z-levels and set the area, which now reads as out-doors and lighted, to be my meeting space.  When I turned on dwarf stay inside, dwarfs would get stuck in the meeting area.
