Abandoning Fortresses?
« on: November 26, 2008, 06:49:56 pm »

I have a fortress, m second fortress actually, that I'm doing pretty well with. I'm getting a bit bored of Fortress mode though but want to keep the fortress. I'd abandon then reclaim but I heard that then you lose all the dwarves in the fortress and have to build up again. I'd prefer not to do this as there are some very weird stories in the fortress. Is there a way to take a break from the fortress but come back and keep the same dwarves?

If you don't want to lose your fort, I'd say just generate another world.

Would I be able to go back to the first world though?

My advice? Just copy your saved region folder.

After backing up the region, screw around in Adventure Mode or whatever, then restore your backed up version and play Fortress Mode some more! Obviously you won't retain any of the things you did in Adventure Mode, but that may or may not matter to you.

Yes.

I have 4 "active" worlds that I can play any time I want. 2 are forts, 1 being the prototype of the other. 1 is adventure mode, and 1 is a savefile of a community game that I've been reading, I had to download it and take a look around.

I quite often find I've got 6 or 7 fortresses in various states at any one time. Should probably delete some, I don't often go back to them...
