Well actually that is pretty unique but it does sound very cool.

First of all, a great game!
Suggestions I have:
-It should be possible to play the German medic (this should be easy)
-Bigger screen should be possible (it just fills almost a quarter of mine)
-Cooperative Mulitiplayer for two people using one keyboard on one computer
-Coop or Deathmatch using web or LAN
-One other thing that could be added would be mines

Somewhere in this thread, somebody wrote a batch file to switch the sides to the germans so you can play them.

I'm not sure if you can force the thing into fullscreen, but OpenGL makes it easy to do that, so I could add that whenever I get around to doing another version.  If you can get the code running, you'd just need to change the FALSE to TRUE where it creates the window in the beginning.

I know nothing about making multiplayer games.  The code's on the web page, and if anybody wants to do something like this, they are welcome to.

Hmmm...  would you want to see the mines a bit?  or is it some kind of random unavoidable instant death thing that you'd want to cope with?

About the mines: I think they should be placed in the middle of the screen. They wouldn't have so much impact on the game, just cause some more wounded soldiers in the beginning. They should be gone once they've been set off. What I think would be really interesting is the barbed wire. On the other hand all this just makes it harder to take the enemy trench... I have never made it, but I'd like to.
I've already made my "German conversion" as I saw it was really easy to do (after I posted.) I also made a "Serbs against Turk" conversion.
Keep up the good work. This is the first real anti war game I've seen! It just hurts to see the soldiers (both sides!) die!  :(

Again about the mines: I think there are enough unavoidable and frustrating deaths, so I wouldn't want a permanent random killing by mines, just some killing / maiming in the beginning. Maybe the mines should be slightly recognizable. Cheers!

Yet another post... By making the screen bigger I also thought of making the battle field bigger (more pixels / soldiers) by choice. Multiplayer could look like this: There are two medics, I control mine with the numpad, the other player his with w a s d etc. Or one player could order the attack or retreat with keys. So no true multiplayer. I myself have no idea about programming, just suggestions...

Hello all--

Someone mentioned earlier that they would like to play the game full screen. If you have Windows XP, there's a 'work around'.

Simply create a shortcut for the executable, then change the shortcut's properties on the 'compatibility' tab to run it in compatibility mode and at 640 x 480 resolution. This should fill up your screen, regardless of your normal screen resolution. Makes things easier to see, in my opinion; you can actually see the scarring of bullets on the battlefield and the like.

The game's quite fun, BTW. Been playing it for the past hour or so. I got the game from the latest CGW demo disc...looks like you guys are gathering quite a bit of notoriety. Well done!

PS: I posted this in its own topic...feel free to delete that one, if you're interested in tidy boards.   :)

Well, I don't think they're making money off of it, so apparently that's the loophole.

I'm just surprised that they didn't contact you guys to let you know.  Seems like a strange practice to me...But then again, that's why I don't work for a video gaming mag.

I guess that's unusually, although there's an off-chance my spam filter killed the email.  Was the disc bundled with a magazine or something like that?  If so, what was the issue date?  I couldn't find anything out on the web.

It was issue 241 of Computer Gaming World, dated August 2004.  I got it in the post sometime last week.  The cover story is the 2004 Fall Games Preview.

It's listed on the CGW demo disc cover, right there along with Rise of Nations, Hitman: Contracts, and the Everquest 2 trailer...Not bad, huh?  ;D

Hey Toady One your game is great! I only read through page 2 in the forum so forgive my not-up-to-dateness. But I have some suggestions.

1. Full screen (that would kick @$$!!)

2. something besides those hideous smilely faces, I got some WWI helmet pics from Google and replaced them to shield my eyes from their idiocy.

3. Beefier sound fx. I replaced mine w/ some from Call of Duty (you can't do this due to copyrights, oh well.)

There's my suggestions, but keep the main formula the same, otherwise it wouldn't be so addictive!!!
