I use all three: Still very much a newb and once I learn a control scheme, no matter how bad it is, I stick to it.

Case in point: Smash TV for the SNES. I thought that only Y shot rounds and for some reason I couldn't figure out how to shoot to the left, right, or bottom of the screen. Once I figured out what A, B, and X did, my gameplay GOT WORSE.

I, too, leave the commands up so it doesn't move the view when i look at something.

Env. only looks cool with my 106x66 grid though ;). If only my screen was taller, I could fit an entire 2x2 map on it at once. Then I'd use env only all the time ;D

Environment window as big as possible and commands small. The minimap seems to be of very little use.

Im good at memorizing, so I never hardly ever use the command window. Instead of looking at the minimap, however, I just use (u)nit list and then (z)oom to asses any threats.

Its very efficient.

AND WHY DID YOU WANT TO KNWO!?!??! (yes I mispelled that on purpose.)

This is me:

I memorized all the commands long ago, and I only use the minimap when I first embark on a site because its helpful in getting a basic lay of the land.  After that I find it to be completely useless.

Though of course this does mean that I tend to not notice new commands in the rare cases that one is added.

I memorized the commands I use the most often, so I often have the environment map maximized. I bring up the command menu to issue the rarer commands.

Even with most of the commands memorized, I find it far more comfortable to use the environment + commands view.

The mini map is pretty much useless after 2 or 3 years ina  fort as by then I pretty much know my way around the map by eye. The only case where I might use it is when a seige pops up to know from what sides i'm getting attacked from.

Env + commands cause I hate the whole size shifting when you hit "k" or "q" to look about.

Yeah but if you won't play for some months...believe me..you will need to display that "commands menu"!  ;D

env only. I know all the commands by now so that's out. The minimap is slightly useful on very large maps to keep an eye on things easier but I generally play on 3x3 for more FPS so I never use it.

It is annoying to have the window move sometimes, but I find having the commands or minimap window open all the time much, much more annoying so I just deal with my window moving from time to time.

Enviroment only.  It's like mesmerizing the alphabet again.

I practically know what every symbol is.

EDIT:  I just checked when I favorited Dwarf Fortress and it was October 24th!!  I remember how difficult it was to learn 2D and then this 3D comes out, out of nowhere.

Environment, I don't know why.  Commands, 'cause I constantly check inventories and building tasks.  On small maps, or maps I've cleared the slopes on I'll have the mini map open to check the progress of my woodcutter and where the wolves are.

Prior to getting the ability to increase the grid, I tended to use environment only or env+com.

Now I'm able to view several times more than what I could before, I often don't even realize com+map are being displayed. Although with env only, I can see 5/8th's of the width of my 3x3 map. Far more than I need, really, as the heart of my fort can be contained in a 1x1 embark area ;p. A 2x1 piece dedicated to defense/military (Although only 3-4 levels of it) and another 1x1 piece contains my tree farms.

Env + map on an extremely enlarged grid at high resolution.  The map is mostly eye candy, although I occasionally use it to check out critters
