Blot out the sun, and have that giant ceiling collapse.

Fed a noble into a dwarfapult, and watch him die.

Play CTH ( fully decked out with firing siege dwarves, and traps.

Set fire to your fort.

Attack all of your remaining merchants with flaming cats.

Let loose demons in your nobles'/pests' housings.

Make your WHOLE fort cave-in.

Flood your fort.

Flood your fort with lava.

Unlock the bulkheads that are used to seperate you from the siegers.

Make all nobles tantrum in one isolated area, stocked with food and booze via bridge locks from above.

Use your Drownery/Water Lock.

Use lava for your Drownery/Water Lock.

Check out some of the mods, especially the ones that make the game harder.

Civilization forge adds a bunch of new types of raiders. Legend lands is big on rocks, I think.

There's one that lets you play as irradiated post-apocalyptic humans.

find a terrifying iceburg and lose, make a horrible starting if you have to. basically, if you keep losing you'll want to win more, making it less boring

dispite the awsomeness of megaprojects noone really wants to make something that can have the same effect as something 1:100 of its scale

Probably best advice.

Otherwise, some people find building a huge construction or highly complex map worth playing.
You might want to try a mod, or drastically changing the play style - for my next fortress, I plan on embarking in an evil cold climate and make a civilization of viking dwarves - no digging, no mechanisms, no traps of any sort, no marksdwarves. Might be interesting.

But if you take a break and come back after the next release, you may find that more fulfilling.

I planned on doing that...but that would've more than doubled the length of my break ;p

Just take a break. I'm not playing DF too much anymore (still checking the forums every 2 seconds though) but I plan to play when the next release comes out (hopefully not next year).

Try getting some of your friends involved.  Introduce them to the game and then get a succession fort going amongst yourselves.  Dealing with new and oddly built forts might well be the change you need.

Not to mention dismantling their drawbridge levers and replacing them with doomsday levers is hilarious.
