Unable to find a programmer who would listen to me, I kidnapped one randomly and educated them. Right. Torak, you have a programmer but we kinda gathered heat.

I don't think an enlightened kidnapping makes it a crime. It's only when you dont convert them before the cops show up when it's a crime.
