You need this:

Code: [Select]
_____ _____
11111111111
22222222222

...and so on.

At the top, a floor with a one-tile gap.
The string of 1s and 2s represent two retracting drawbridges one above the other.

If the dorfs get too scared, retract drawbridge #1 and reset it.  Rinse and repeat as you drop your load of creatures into the pit.  This allows you to conceal your load from view once it becomes too "scary"

On an 8x8 surface, you can pit about 5 or 6 hostile creatures before needing to flush them.

When you're ready for Ze Big Drop, pull the lever for drawbridge #2!

Yes, Alternating bridges i know, but with only one tile hole it is not possible to designate multiple hostiles to pit at once without scaring the dwarves right?

For automation, you could set it up so that drawbridge 1 is linked to a pressure plate that responds to citizens that is somewhere on the path to the pit.

So, Urist is bringing a goblin to the pit.  Steps on plate.  Drawbridge 1 retracts.  Steps off plate.  Drawbridge 1 resets.  Throws goblin into pit, goblin lands on drawbridge 1.  Urist may freak out now that there's a scary goblin, or not.  Regardless, Urist will leave, stepping on the plate, retracting drawbridge 1, dropping the goblin onto drawbridge 2.  Much less manual intervention.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Situation:

I pit several gobbos without purging them.  There's only one left to pit but it'll be impossible.  There are just so many down there the dwarf will invariably get scared before he can pit the creature.

Will the dwarf consider the interruption as an attack and eventually become unhappy, or will he just give up without much of a consequence when he decides it's time to eat/drink/sleep and just replace hir gobbo back in the cage he had taken it from?

Strange. I build cages next to the pit and designate the one inside to be pitted.
If i designate multiple gobs to be pitted the dwarves tend to do it simultaniously and thus one/some of the dwarves will be scared away while trying to pit a gob. the gob that should have been pitted is now free due to the dwarf being scared.

I think I may have to do something like this... I could do it in one of my old forts, it has no lack of big sieges but I'd rather do it in my new fort which has a chasm (just started it so won't be ready for awhile).

You have succeeded in making Dwarf Fortress look interesting for people who previously hated the graphics! Looks awesome!

Great video loved the mix of 3dwarf and in-game graphics to give an impression of the 3d. As far as your ever so "dwarven" play-pen goes the only improvement I can see is the addition of seats on the sides near the bottom where body parts and all the happy things start flinging everywhere. I can already see Urist McDaddy bring his kid to the execution.

Urist Jr. :"Hey Dad look! I caught an arm! I caught an arm! can I keep it pleassse!"
Urist Sn. :"Alright but keep it hiden those elves over there might want to snack on it."
