You know how badly at work I was thinking "Gee, I wish I had DF on this DS of mine." Grrrrrr!

Oh, and btw: It's been bugging me all thread - TakiJap's ascii rendering of the Dragon pursuing the dwarves depicts the dragon as either falling or being propelled against it's will toward the dwarves. Flying doesn't have a background-color indicator.

I've said many times along the lines of:
Someone make an application for DS home brew (or Iphone, or Gphone, or anything with a reasonably sized screen) wi-fi that lets you dial up your computer by remote assistance and can receive and display ACSII at a rate of at least 8 FPS (the lowest playable GFPS setting in my opinion. The actual simulation running as fast as your home PC can of course) and have the touch screen/stylus work as a mouse with a small touch keyboard at the side of the screen.
A DS application that can run DF remotely on your computer, receiving input and receiving the output but never actually having to process a bit of the actual game.

So...  A speed-limiting external interface with a tiny screen and a half-dozen buttons that lets you play DF from elsewhere in the house?  I fail to see the utility when you can just leave the game running well enough on it's own.

The interface is not speed limiting. The limit is in how fast it can receive and display the text, which should be well over 8 FPS. The actual game would be running at 200 FPS if your home machine is running it at 200 FPS. Mess with your GFPS settings. You can see no difference until about 8 FPS (it's the display rate, not calculation rate).
The interface would be cramped because you can't click on the pre-existing side menus to navigate and have to use touch hotkeys on a pseudokeyboard (unless the utility/home-brew fixed this also). Touching to designate what trees to cut works, but touching/clicking "designate" on the main side menu does nothing as is right now.
I'm not sure how many tiles of text the Gphone or Iphone can display. I know the DS is about 480 by something pixels, so you might be able to use a smaller 8x8 tileset.

You could leave it running, and/or be giving commands on the bus, on a plane, at work, lunch break... anywhere you have a wireless connection. Which is why it would be amazing on a fancy cell phone with unlimited minutes.

EDIT:
256x 192 on 2 screens. That's 32 x 24 tiles on two screens. Touch screen for menus and map, top for display?

Give it that holo-foil treatment. I forget what they use, but they have a ridge-covered plastic that can display several images at once, so that as it turns, it can look animated. We could have it blink, go to a brown background, then a red one, then stop.

Lenticular printing. If anyone wants it done... let me know :P

In the fashion of old games from the early 90s that had crappy graphics, it should have an extremely stylized picture of a montage of dwarves laboring, hauling, forging, quaffing and slaughtering goblins. remember back when they had to draw fancy pictures on the boxes to hide the lack of graphics in the game?

Of course, as somebody said, the box would have to be enormous to hold the manual which would be bigger than the Oxford English Dictionary. Thank God for the internet, right?!

Man, I want that manual so badly!!! Screw the internet.

Funking win. But man would that be hard to see on a DS.
