New issue and site idea.
« on: November 23, 2008, 03:51:41 pm »

Okay, here's a thought. Health care as an issue. On the liberal side would be fully socialized health care. On the opposite would be totally free market health care. The poll question could be XX% favors socialized medicine. Also you could have the free clinic and the Hospital, but you could raid the hospital or go there to be healed. As a special token you could have health care records that would expose excessive diagnoses, prescriptions and procedures and overcharging. The negative article could be that socialized health care costs a ton or is inefficient. As for effects, the more liberal the health care the cheaper the Hospital, the more expensive. For the clinic the more conservative things get, due to lack of funding, the clinic gets less effective taking longer to heal people and even having a chance to kill folks from complications or infection.
The Hospital site could be loaded with Doctors, Nurses, some Security and Lab techs etc. Maybe a new class of Hospital administrator?

Wheres the humor? Maybe if ArchConservative was doing experiments on the poor to learn new techniques or just for the heck of it, while Elite Liberal rich people are harvested for organs to save cats.

For ArchConservative: It is illegal for the poor to have any sort of health care. At all. God did not give you wealth because you are a bad person, so you deserve punishment for your sin. Just repent sinner, and you'll be back to normal.

Or even better, prohibit anyone from going to the Doctor. Rich or poor.

Wow, y'all be heartless. I can practically hear the chuckles at the suffering. But it certainly does add an air of extremism, which, we all know, LCS thrives upon.

It would also increase the importance of having some folks with first aid skill if we made the hospitals effectively shut down.

L+ even the Hospital is free, but would treat more slowly because they have to deal with all the other patients too. Note your people are probably being injured less in L+ society, so it's probably not a huge benefit here. (Edit: Maybe the effectiveness is based on taxes. If taxes are too low, they're slow and have long waiting times. So you need to get both up if you want nice treatment of your Liberals.)

C+ Hospital is bloody expensive, but since it's so elite and exclusive the medical staff is all over you like fleas on a cat. Also, they won't turn you in to the cops, the way L+ Hospitals will, because you're exclusive customers.

Naturally, in the more C cases, the FREE Clinic would be permanently closed. So you'd need money or first aid.

If you lose the game, hospitals are banned and everyone has to engage in faith healing.

Wow, it is like ultra-concervative states are more Religious, in the worst sense of the word, then the Roman Catholic Church!?!

So I guess Ultra-conservatives force the Church to force Religion beyond sanity!

Note: I said in the worst sense of the word... The Term "Religous" itself isn't a derogatory term but is often used as such.

This brings up a question...

Would an Ultra Conservative Nation Ban all meat but fish?

Or would an Ultra Conservative nation make vegetarianism illegal?

Or both

Why would meat be banned? If anything they would ban grains and force everyone to eat meat except during lent when everyone has to eat fish.

While Arch-Conservatives in LCS are extremely religious, they are also extremely corporate.  The C+ position is what happens when religious fundamentalists make sweet monkey love to corporate fat-cats.

I'm no expert on socialized, medicine, but I'm pretty sure that emergency treatment for injury (for things like bullets) is better.  Emergency rooms are filled under the free market by treatments for people who didn't get preventative care.  HMO stonewalling gets in the way of doctors doing their jobs.  Socialized medicine on the other hand has already budgeted for the emergency treatment and can get the job done without fuss.

Basically, it's down to how we ration healthcare (you're fooling yourself if you don't think everyone does.)  The free market places the pinch all across the board.  Socialized medicine favors more basic treatments at the expense of more elaborate procedures and long term research.  But since LCS members aren't worried about getting cancer or needing cutting edge drugs, socialized medicine is going to deliver much better healthcare for their needs.

On the other hand, it might be funnier to play up the "Socialized medicine is slow" stereotype.

And now for something partially different:  How about under conservative laws, you have the option to sell prescription drugs illegally.  It would be related to the business and first aide skills and be more profitable then selling brownies.  Under C+ laws, it would be even more profitable.  Moderate laws make it only marginally profitable and in liberal societies there's no need for this activity.

Also, I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure the no meat but fish thing is catholic only.  And that's only supposed to be on friday and during lent.

wow! it would be great to have that option... finally having to pay for our reckless actions,
the free clinic should take longer to cure you or be unavailable sometimes, or have a maximum
capacity.  And the prices of the Hospital should vary depending on the L/C

Which is exactly what we need to do.

"Bee arrives at the University Hospital."
"Bee is now waiting in the waiting room."
"Bee is now filling out paperwork."
"Bee is filling out forms in order to release his medical records."
"Bee is waiting, pending approval for a preliminary check."
"Bee is refilling paperwork because the approval was denied."
"The hospital has ran out of papers, Bee must wait for new forms to be delivered."
"Bee finally gives up and takes the Nurse hostage."
"Bee is told that for the Nurse to authorize 'medical assistance fast-track due to patient taking hostage a Nurse', the Nurse to fill out Form #596A and wait 6 business days."

Um, do realize that the game shows how the the Liberal Crime Squad sees the world. And LCS isn't exactly the bastion of sanity here.

Hmm, that fits with the Dominionist part of C++, but not the corporatist/oligarchical/feudal part. Now, as pointed out above, C++ is the result of the sweet union of these, so theocracy has its place, but we need to give some respect to the upper crust. I'd think a better angle would be having the poor forced to resort to faith healers, whereas the crème de la crème (e.g., CEOs, hangin' judges, and particularly prominent faith healers ;)) have personal MDs on retainer to look after them and their families.

'Course, the real problem (indeed, the deciding factor) is choosing a C++ stance that can be stated pithily.

CEOes are the faith healers. (EDIT: Well, anybody who has the blessing of God [meaning, money] really. The more money you have, the more likely you have been blessed.)

No, no, no. As you say, the CEOs are clearly foremost amongst the blessed, but the faith healers are the ones wholly given over to tending to the spiritual needs of others, while CEOs are more concerned with tending to more temporal matters. The two have different callings...
